Artist Tour with Grant Foster | Phoenix Art Space
Mar 14, 2025 (UTC+0)
Waterloo
Artist Tour with Grant Foster Join us for an exclusive artist tour with Grant Foster for his exhibition Home to my Teenage Bedroom in the Main Gallery at Phoenix Art Space. Revisiting his teenage bedroom as a formative creative space, Foster explores how early obsessions and visual influences shape artistic expression. His works, which includes paintings and collages, draw from a personal archive of materials, including newspaper clippings, advertisements, and fragments of text, layered together in dynamic compositions that are at once wistful and anarchic. With a mix of humour, historical references, and poignant commentary, Home to My Teenage Bedroom invites viewers to reflect on the intersection of past and present, analogue and digital, and the power of images to shape meaning over time. This in-person event is a unique opportunity to interact with the artist and gain insight into his practice and inspiration for the exhibition.

This course will teach you the basics of modern upholstery, including use of tools, webbing, hessian, foam use and fabric application. Most materials and tools will be provided but you will need to bring with you a 1m x 1m piece of fabric of your own choosing for the top cover. You will have the choice of bringing in your own dining chair or you can purchase a footstool frame from the tutor (as seen in the image) if you prefer. Please note your chair needs to be unsprung and a seat only, if you are unsure of its suitability please email Emily a picture to em@myupholstery.co.uk for confirmation. Footstool orders need to be placed a minimum of two weeks ahead of the class date. This course is suitable for beginners. Costs: £145 Days: 1 Saturday Times: 10:00 - 17:00 Dates: 15 March Location: White Room Maximum: 8 I’m Emily Beaumont and I learnt the wonderful craft of upholstery at The Cass, part of London Metropolitan University under the watchful eye and huge skill of a fourth generation upholsterer. After 6 years of part-time study I was awarded a distinction for my Diploma from the AMUSF, so years of hard work definitely paid off! Whilst there I also discovered the much forgotten art of hand-tailored lampshades through the amazing skill of Angela Constantinou. I now work out of Brighton & Hove, a vibrant city which is a constant source of inspiration to me. It has been a huge learning curve but one I feel very lucky to have been able to do. It is immensely satisfying to be able to work creatively with my hands using traditional tools, materials and methods. We live in a fast paced world and it is really nice to see what amazing things can be achieved with a bit of time. My chairs can be described as traditionally modern reinventing beautifully made vintage frames into a chair that fits in today’s modern world. They are chairs that need to be seen and noticed as well as being gorgeously comfortable to sit on.

DiSCoVeR | Performance for children ages 0-6| Waterloo | Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre
Mar 27, 2025 (UTC-5)
Waterloo
Join Cosmic Fishing Theatre as our first explorers of theatre and performance for very young children (ages 0-8), with a first-ever professional series of its kind, specially dedicated to growing intercultural and intergenerational audiences in the Waterloo Region. Come and explore the performance project Tricoter (from Vancouver) at the Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre in Waterloo on March 27 at 12:00 pm and share a special moment with your little one in a world filled with play, exploration and discovery. Tricoter re-creates the spirit of a knitting circle. The dance winds and unwinds through and around the public who are arranged in the round. Yarn is integrated into the choreography and weaves an architecture that links public and place to the dancer. While dancing, the yarn gets tangled in a large knot of bright colours, and we remember those who have knitted for us in our own family. We experience Tricoter (Tree-Ko-Tay) through play, curiosity, and exploration of belonging to a community. Tricoter or Knitting in English, is a delightful mix of colours, movement, sounds and texture that captures the imagination of babies. The performance is followed by a stay and play activity for the whole family.
