Jump into Abstract Painting Workshop | Hampton Court Studio

Mar 13, 2025 (UTC+0)
Hampton
Arts
Painting
Explore abstract painting in a creative and inspiring studio where you will learn intuitive & expressive mark making. Abstract painting is a diverse subject and we are happy to offer various exploratory sessions. Our 2.5 hour workshops are created to inspire you to create a piece of art that you can be truly proud to hang on your wall. Further workshops are held every few weeks covering the use of collage, inks, dry materials and various other mixed media. It is suggested that you select the JUMP INTO ABSTRACT first then move onto one of the other workshops on offer. Please select one of the sessions offered by date on the calendar. Details of the session are as follows: JUMP INTO ABSTRACT - this is the introductory class, where we will explore mark making with various tools and mediums on paper. Your personal interpretation of words, actions and feelings will become evident. There is no need to be perfect or precise, you will only be required to delve into your subconscious and make your marks from deep inside you. You will be the master of your own creation. There will be an initial demonstration showing you how the painting process begins. Then, using word prompts to trigger feelings we will fill our paper with charcoal, pencil, and ink. Break free by using our non-dominant hand to make marks freely across a partitioned piece of paper. We will continue with collage and colour to fill your page with your own personal marks. You will be guided every step of the way with ideas, but you will be encouraged to discover your own expression in this piece. This class is for those wishing to get an idea of what is possible with abstract painting. For those wishing to learn and develop further skills in abstract painting, please select one of the other options on the selected dates. There will also be workshops covering specific topics, such as abstract landscapes, animals, portraiture... The course includes materials and notes to take home with you. These “in person” classes, workshops and lessons is a place where you can learn to create art in a friendly, creative environment so you finally feel fulfilled. This workshop is designed for beginners, or for those wishing to explore an intuitive/expressive painting. Come and have some fun exploring a really different way of creating art. (Intuitive means instinctive and when used in painting, we connect with our emotions or feelings without being conscious of doing so.) We will supply the materials used in the class and you will take your masterpiece home with you (along with notes) We serve teas, coffees and fruit teas and biscuits. BYOB if required. The studio is in East Molesey on the Mole River and has easy access via train, rail and offers free parking in a private road. I can accommodate up to 4 - 6 students at a time. Group Bookings can be organised via email or mobile. Information Source: Margie Haslewood | eventbrite

Practice can be a powerful thing. It drives creative expression. It can feel distant and undefinable. Kate and their partner in practice, Sally will share what they have learned about life in the generative. They will explain how everyone, even with no training, can build a framework to support the urge and impulse to make and use inspiration and reference to find the individual generative which leads to the new. In this workshop we will ask the questions: What is it to BE an artist? What IS practice?Considering WHY and HOW we make and looking at the steps that can be taken to build and expand an individual sustainable practice. Our workshops are appropriate for artists at any stage of their development, (you don’t need to be formally trained), but involve a rigorous, transparent, honest conversation about life in the generative. We are here to help you build (or re-examine and re-build) a supportive framework for your creative practice. Open to artists, musicians, writers, all who have or want to further their relationship to creative and acrobatic thinking. Every session is bespoke to the artists who join us, so if you’ve come to a previous session, keep coming back and the conversation will evolve with you. Bring hard questions and an open mind and let's get to work! Information Source: RuptureXIBIT London | eventbrite

Artist crits are often absent from our professional practices post education, so following the success of our group crits during our open call shows and residencies, we're currently focusing the energies of the studio on artists developing their individual practices. Alongside bespoke practice mentoring, we have found crits to be the most powerful tool to help artists at all stages of their careers. This crit will be held in the intimacy of our back studio space, where Kate and Sally will lead the sharing of work and supportive discussion with other artists. NOTE: Please bring up to 1 piece of work or images of the work and a packed lunch. At RuptureXIBIT, we invite you to join us for a rigorous and supportive investigation into deepening and developing your art practice. It also sparked a curiosity to explore my work through performance and mixed media. Kate and Sally's dedication to what they do at Rupture is a pure joy and an inspiration. Thank you for creating a space where artists can thrive and be celebrated. Condemning those on her twisting highways with a fate like that of galley slaves, but there are four mortal men she favours. Disgraceland conjures once more a fallen King in Elvis, riding his band high on her wheel of fortune; then with a sudden breath, she lights the stage and laughs mockingly as the sound begins. And it began, the King of Rock returned in savage style to blaze a trail through a soundscape of classic tunes from past to present, delivering an electrifying experience of Elvis gone Punk Rock that’ll leave you in disarray. Check out their website. PlumbdogsFirst formed in 2012, The Plumbdogs quickly gained a solid following in and around the Moreton Bay Region and Sunshine Coast as a party band playing great rock songs that everyone knows, but a lot of bands don't play. Performing at charity events, pubs, clubs, festivals and private functions they have cemented their reputation with their highly entertaining Pub Rock Show that plays more than just covers but entertains and stimulates audience participation. Their repertoire consists of both Aussie & International rock, soft rock, country rock and southern rock artists. The Plumbdog's dynamic sound along with their witty on-stage presence and banter will have you wanting to sing and dance the night away with the inspired selection of songs covering the 70s through to the 2000s. Check out their website. Rock N Roll BoysThe Rock n Roll Boys are a three-piece band that blends a few original tunes with all of your favourite rock and roll music from the 50s through to the 80s. Formed in 2017, Bob, John and Chas have all been in the music game for 30+ years and still enjoy performing live as much as ever. All guitars, keys and vocals are performed live and are backed by high-quality bass & drum backing tracks. The 'boys' have been regulars at the Gympie Music Muster, Caloundra Beachfest and Waterhole Rocks festivals since 2017 and are still going strong. Check out their Facebook. Deep BlueDeep Blue is a versatile blues and rock band from Queensland, with members based in Brisbane and Esk. This band brings to life the best of the 60s through to the 2000s. Their lineup includes Chayne on lead guitar, Gary on bass, Jack on drums and Milly on keys, with all of them sharing the mic!
