We really are very lucky here; the River Avon is a slow, winding, dreamy escape of a river that meanders away from roads, towns and the noise of civilization into a quiet wilderness full of creatures large and small. I quite regularly see deers swimming in the river during the Summer and Red Kites are starting to shadow us as we paddle along too! This is way more than just your average 'learn to SUP' session, this is a complete experience giving you the skills to escape into nature safely on a paddleboard so you can explore these natural spaces from the unique perspective of walking on water This time of year is especially beautiful; the leaves changing colour to reds and golden browns along the bank, pretty frosts and a haunting layer of mist on the water early in the morning. It's such a privilege watching the river move through the seasons :) This activity is perfect for: Absolute beginners or intermediates looking for a refresher and an adventure., You'll learn how to stand up paddleboard followed by a peaceful tour of the beautiful river Avon to enjoy the tranquillity and local wildlife (kingfishers, deer, herons, wagtails, skylarks, swallows, Canada Geese, swans, buzzards, Red Kites, otters and even rare curlews at moment!). Bourne
New to paddleboarding? New to yoga? Doesn't matter! all our SUP yoga classes are completely beginner friendly so that anyone can have a go. There's space to go at your own pace, perhaps challenge yourself or just enjoy a new experience; put your feet in the water and breathe in the sights, smells and sounds all around you. SUP yoga is all about getting outdoors and embracing a new perspective. The added challenge of being on the water really helps to focus your mind and bring you into the moment, and with that added focus comes the added ability to surprise yourself. This activity is perfect for: Everyone! It's a great opportunity to challenge yourself, have a bit of fun if you like, and to bring a bit of silliness into your practice. But it is also just a really lovely way to relax and unwind. No matter your experience or ability there will be something to try and always an invitation to just rest and enjoy your environment, to breathe and listen, be still and just drink it all in; this is wild SUP yoga! What you'll be doing Meet and greet at the sailing club followed by an opportunity to change, use the bathroom and talk through any concerns you may have. When we are done there will be an opportunity for photos and an invitation to try or learn anything you didn’t get to do during the sequence. Day of SUP & Mindfulness on The River | Arden Sailing Club
May 10, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bourne
Hosted by James & Alex Wittering at our peaceful HQ on the river Avon, this nourishing day of SUP & mindfulness retreat will be all about you. With a real focus on wellbeing, this experience is designed to introduce you to the powerful combination of evidence based mindfulness practices with a fun (and inherently mindful) activity outside, close to nature in one of the UK's prettiest river locations. We've packed this experience full of nourishment for your mind, your body and your tummy; a beginner friendly introduction to MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) teaching you effective stress busting, relationship boosting, insomnia quelling strategies in an experiential format, everything you need to confidently stand-up paddleboard (in a very-low pressure, anxiety friendly and super supportive small group) and a locally sourced, nourishing lunch from a renowned Cotswolds based foraging chef. Most of what we learn about mindfulness during this retreat we take with us and integrate into our experience on the water. We'll take a mindful paddle together to the middle of nowhere for some quiet, reflective and resourcing time close to nature. There will be time to swim and even to practice taking your yoga moves onto a paddleboard. This is a completely beginner-friendly retreat and all our activities will provide opportunities both for experienced yogis to deepen their practice and beginners to move at their own pace. It's really about sharing some time together out on the water, developing a deeper insight into the ways that mindfulness, good food and connecting with nature and each other can resource us and make us better equipped to deal with the challenges of everyday life. We all struggle in our own way; leave it all on the bank for a while.
