GE Appliances Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon and Marathon | Louisville Slugger Field
Apr 26, 2025 (UTC-5)
Louisville
The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon, presented by Walmart and HumanaVitality, has grown from a small local road race to the largest road race in Kentucky history. Each year, runners from all 50 states and multiple countries compete on scenic 13.1-mile and 26.2-mile courses that start and finish in downtown Louisville. College and professional sports are perennial draws in this north-central Kentucky city, but the city’s most famous event is perhaps “the most exciting two minutes in sports” – the legendary Kentucky Derby Festival, which kicks off the racing season the first weekend of May each year.
The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini Marathon are held the week before the Derby, with the Derby taking place the following weekend. The course for this race forgoes some of the hilly roads of previous races and showcases more of the city’s history and attractions. Both the half marathon and full marathon are USATF-certified courses, with the full marathon being a Boston Marathon-qualified course.
