DAVE GUNNING - LIVE at Knox Hall | Knox Hall
May 27, 2025 (UTC-5)
Hall
With fourteen albums to his credit, Dave Gunning’s remarkable body of work marks him as a true luminary in the Canadian folk music scene. Dave’s musical roots took hold in his teenage years, deeply inspired by legends like Stan Rogers and Gordon Lightfoot. His music is characterized by its storytelling and melodic sincerity, often highlighting the lives of underdogs and tackling significant social and environmental issues. Gunning has never needed to look far beyond his Pictou County, Nova Scotia backyard for inspiration. That’s where the characters live. That’s where the stories come from In many ways, the ensuing awards and accolades speak for themselves: ten East Coast Music Awards, two Canadian Folk Music Awards, four Music Nova Scotia Awards, and a Juno Award nomination for his tribute album to the late John Allan Cameron. As one reviewer aptly noted, “Gunning’s ability to blend humor with poignancy makes his performances unforgettable.” This blend is evident in his live shows, where his engaging banter and self-effacing humor create a warm, intimate atmosphere. His journey from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, to stages worldwide is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft. In 2022, Gunning released The Same Storm, an album written and recorded during the pandemic. It continues his tradition of celebrating everyday moments, lending a voice to the overlooked, and looking forward to the stories yet to come.
