"Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the View of Nature" is the largest solo exhibition of the iconic artist Emily Carr (1871–1945) from British Columbia, Canada, hosted by the Vancouver Art Gallery in over 20 years. The exhibition delves into the artist's fascination with the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, exploring how she understood nature and her relationship with it through a detailed analysis of her paintings and writings. The exhibition argues that Carr's landscape paintings exist at the intersection of her experience of nature and the idea of how to convey this experience through painting, with the aim of expressing the sacred essence inherent in nature. The exhibition also reveals the tension between personal and regional references and the grand ideas and philosophies about nature in Western cultural traditions.

This exhibition showcases works from the past 25 years, emphasizing the urgency and relevance of sustainable development and environmental protection as key issues of our time. More than 35 works spanning various media—from large-scale video installations to kinetic sculptures—invite viewers to confront pressing issues concerning our shared future on this planet.
