Natural Ink Making Workshop | Severn Gorge Countryside Trust
Gather bark and berries from the woods and brew them into beautiful natural inks. Modifiers such as iron water and ash will change the colours creating a new palette. Using twigs and pods as well as brushes, explore the colours you have created with free drawing and mark-making.

I have a B.A. and M.A. in arts and have taught and lectured in art and craft for around 25 years. I am most interested in the connection between art and nature, sketching directly from the natural world and using natural history as the inspiration for printmaking and design. I believe that studying the landscape, flora and fauna about us, we can heal ourselves and be moved to protect nature.
Above all, art can be sociable, playful and experimental.
Severn Gorge Countryside Trust
This workshop is being hosted by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a local charity.
The Trust’s aim is to promote, protect and conserve the living landscape of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, which has a diverse range of habitats, including wildflower meadows, woodlands and heathlands. But that’s not all! We maintain over 20 kilometres of footpaths, conserve and protect 60 historic structures, run exciting Outdoor Learning and Volunteering Programmes to encourage local people and visitors to engage with the natural environment in a variety of ways.
All proceeds from this workshop will support the work of the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

Singer Sargent style Portrait Painting with Suzanne Kemplay (Two Day Event) | Birchwood Art Studio
Portrait painting inspired by John Singer Sargent John Singer Sargent (1856 to 1928) was the most successful portrait painter of this time. A student of Carlos Duran, he dispensed with the traditional academic approach to drawing and painting in favour of the alla prima method which relies on proper placement of tones of paint. Join experienced tutor and well known Scottish artist Suzanne Kemplay for two immersive days of portrait painting in the style of Sargent. Day 1 will start with a short presentation on portraits followed by a series of exercises made to encourage developing our own style of painting. On the afternoon of day 1 we will be sketching out our portraits and starting to establish the composition and tone of our portraits. Day 2 will include short demonstrations on painting features and colour mixing skin tones. We will work towards having a finished portrait by the end of day 2. All materials and refreshments provided morning and afternoon. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the excellent cafe next door. Suitable for all levels - over 16s only. We will discuss the teachings from Kazu Haga's latest book, "
Fierce Vulnerability: Healing from Trauma, Emerging through Collapse
". The book invites people into imagining a movement that sees injustice not as a political issue but a manifestation of collective trauma, and therefore understands that we can’t “shut down” injustice anymore than we can “shut down” trauma.
Through touching our own heartbreak and vulnerability, we will mobilize the fierceness to stop violence and injustice while cultivating the love necessary to heal it.
The workshop will include dharma talks, meditations, role-plays and interactive small group work.
All are welcome!

The teachings are regarded as priceless. So they are offered without a fee. You are invited to support the teachings and our efforts by contributing voluntary donations (the practice of “Dana”) for the expenses of the meditation center and the support of the teachers.

About the Book:
There is an answer to white Christian supremacy that is centuries in the making.
For many oppressed and vulnerable people, Western Christianity has been a nightmare. Just centuries after the life of Jesus, the rise of Western Christendom contorted Christianity into an instrument of domination and violence. The church fused with the state, sanctioning empire-expanding crusades, colonization, and chattel slavery. Author Drew G. I. Hart challenges the church to wake up to how this past persists in the present, calling Christians to confront the living legacy of plundered people and lands in the name of Jesus.
Making It Plain
offers a novel pathway for Christians to live out a decolonial and antiracist faith in the aftermath of Christendom: the convergence of the radical discipleship of the Anabaptist tradition and the prophetic witness of the Black church. In the witness of Black and Anabaptist Christian communities across time, we find a faith that takes the life and teachings of Jesus seriously. Despite oppression or persecution at the hands of mainstream Christianity, these traditions salvaged a liberating and peacemaking vision of Jesus right under the nose of empire and white supremacy.
Weaving together narrative history, theology, and practical guidance, Hart compells readers to engage the best of these faith streams to forge an Anablacktivist faith where everyone belongs, where everyone can thrive, and where everyone matters, especially the last and the least. The shared wisdom of these faith traditions offers signposts towards a Jesus-shaped, Spirit-filled, community-oriented movement capable of surviving and resisting new mutations of white Christian nationalism, antiblackness, and settler colonialism today.
About the Author:
Drew G. I. Hart
is a public theologian and professor of theology at Messiah University. He has ten years of pastoral ministry experience and is the recipient of multiple awards for peacemaking. Hart attained his MDiv with an urban concentration from Missio Seminary and his PhD in theology and ethics from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He is a sought-after speaker at conferences, campuses, and churches across the United States and Canada. His first book,
Trouble I’ve Seen: Changing the Way the Church Views Racism
, utilizes personal and everyday stories, theological ethics, and anti-racism frameworks to transform the church’s understanding and witness. Hart lives with his wife, Renee, and their three sons in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The princesses planned a magical event for you! Join them for stories, songs, dances, crafts, photos and more! Make wishes, join our princess parade, and get autographs too! Each princess in attendance would love to meet you!

How to Prepare?
Bring your camera and a smile! Charge your phone beforehand. We recommend your little one gets a good night's sleep/nap the day of the event. We also suggest eating something filling before arriving, this way you will be set for all the fun ahead!
What to Wear?
Little ones are encouraged to wear their favorite princess dress or costume. Please let them wear something they feel comfortable and happy in! Adults should think "Sunday's Best" when getting dressed! We see everything from dresses to nice jeans.
Check In:
Please have your ticket or order number ready for check-ins. Everyone MUST have purchased tickets ahead of time to attend. We will not allow those without tickets to enter. Our only exception is children under 12 months. Children under 12 months may attend for FREE when accompanied by a paid adult/child pair. We suggest coming 10 minutes early to make sure you are able to enjoy this full event- please check venue parking before arriving. Each venue is different, so you are welcome to call ahead.
What to Expect?
This Pretty Princess Parties event begins with the Royal Entrance of our Fairytale Friends. After our princesses have been introduced, we play some large group games to relax and get to know everyone! Once our warm-up time is complete, the ball goes into full swing! The Fairytale Ball is FULL of princess interactions- We Princess Promise your little one will have the opportunity to meet each and every Pretty Princess in attendance. To ensure everyone gets all the photos and hugs they need, the final 20 minutes of the ball are dedicated to "Love&Goodbyes" so no one feels like they need to rush out the door! Our event is created to please each and every guest, and we know you'll go home with a smile on your face and love in your heart!
Tips for Success:
Once in a while, in all of the excitement, we need a parental figure to step in and help with a child. If you see that one of the guests is interfering with a game or preventing things from running smoothly, we ask that the parent or any other adult figure take care of the matter. Our princesses are not to be considered babysitters, or caretakers, in any way. You must stay for the duration of this event, and ensure your child is having a safe and comfortable experience. Our princesses want to give each and every child their "magical moment." Please do not rush our performers to take photos faster, or speed up interactions. If you are disruptive of the Fairytale Ball event in any way, you may be asked to leave. No refunds will be given.

Our fairytale characters have been based on stories that have been told throughout the centuries and, therefore, have been out of copyright and in the public domain. While our characters have been modeled after some of the most popular tellings and renditions of these fairytales, they are not affiliated with any theme park or company. 19th Annual Ray of Hope Suicide Awareness Walk | Twin Lakes Park
Please review the walk details before registering. The walk is at Twin Lakes Park, Twin Lakes Road Latrobe, PA 15650, Pavilion 7 & Activity Center.
Registration is now open for the Annual Ray of Hope Walk. Tickets are sold online only this year. If you are unable to register online, please email rayofhope@mhaswpa.org for assistance. We will have all registered names listed for check-in. You do not need to bring the ticket.
Commemorative Walk Shirt
supplies are limited--please register early! You may also register when you arrive the day of the walk. As with all late registrations after August 17th, walk-day registrations will cost $25.00 (cash or check).
Loss Survivors Event
Prior to the walk, those who have lost a loved one to suicide are invited to attend the Loss Survivors Event, held in the Activity Center, which features a speaker. Pre-registration is required as this is a closed event, with limited tickets. The Survivor's Event will be held 10-10:45 AM, with check-in for the event at 9:45. As long as you have pre-registered, you will have your hand stamped for entry when you check in. No walk-ins are permitted due to capacity.

Bring cash as we sell raffle tickets ($20 for 25 tickets or $10 for 10 tickets) for some great prizes as well as awareness T-shirts ($10)and hoodies ($30)! Please register/check in by 11:00 at the latest as the walk opening ceremony begins at 11:15. The walk will shortly follow.
