Arts Theater
Join us on September 13th 2025 at 5pm for an event everyone is dying to attend! Because sometimes....someone has to die for the party to liven up! All is fair in Love and Murder! The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, but the wedding bells aren’t ringing for this not-so-happy couple when a member of the wedding party is murdered! With a raging bridezilla and an unenthused groom on the scene, it may be happily never after in this nuptial nightmare. Trade clues with your guests and help the hapless couple figure out whodunnit so they can say I do before the wedding hour passes them by! The bride and groom aren’t picky, so you can wear just about whatever you’d like. In fact, we encourage you to wear your own wedding dress or the most ridiculous wedding attire you can come up with. It’ll make their special day that much more special, so long as they actually get the chance to walk down the aisle! Buffet style dinner and 1 soft drink is included in your ticket price along with the show. There will be a cash bar available. Please drive around the back of the hotel and enter where the balloons are marking the entrance. Doors open at 4pm. Please arrive by 5:30pm. the show will run until approx 9:30pm. I’m a doctor now, a respected professional. And Henrik doesn’t even know I exist. So you tell me why I’m risking everything to follow this man halfway around the world! After receiving news of his sister’s tragic death, Henrik must fly to Sweden to retrieve his injured, grieving young niece. But with a new hockey season about to start, Henrik can’t possibly care for her alone. In fact, the Swedish government won’t let him. He needs me. They both do. I’d be heartless not to help—right? Well, that’s what I told myself last week as I signed our Swedish marriage license. It’s what I told myself yesterday as I moved into his apartment. And it’s what I’m telling myself now as the Rays PR Director stares us down. They want this marriage to look real. The team’s public image, our jobs, and Henrik’s custody agreement all depend on it. But my problem isn’t that I don’t love my fake husband. God help me, my problem is that I do. ABOUT EMILY RATH: Emily Rath is a New York Times and internationally bestselling author whose chart-topping, sex-positive, queer-inclusive novels include the Second Sons Regency romances, the Tuonela Duet fantasy novels, and the Why Choose Tiktok sensation, the Jacksonville Rays Hockey Romances. A former university professor, she holds PhDs in Political Science and Peace Studies. Emily was born in Florida, raised in Kentucky, and now lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, son, and cats. She can be found online at EmilyRathBooks.com, on Instagram @emilyrathauthor and on Tiktok @emilyrathbooks. ABOUT M.A. WARDELL: Writing as M.A. Wardell , LAMBDA Literary Award nominee Matt writes spicy queer rom-coms. His goal is to tell adult gay love stories with a diverse representation of flawed and damaged characters who find healing through love. Matt loves rom-coms and has always wished for better representation, so he's writing the stories he wishes existed. The queer men in his stories are flawed and messy. Helping them find their HEA is Matt's passion. ABOUT C. P. HARRIS: When not writing, C.P. Harris can be found reading about the flawed, possessive characters often reflected in her own work. She prefers her love stories a little toxic, a lot complicated, with a happily ever after well worth the struggle it took to get there. If being wrecked by romance is your jam, then C.P. may be the author for you. Information Source: Barnes & Noble | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Gather bark and berries from the woods and brew them into beautiful natural inks. Modifiers such as iron water and ash will change the colours creating a new palette. Using twigs and pods as well as brushes, explore the colours you have created with free drawing and mark-making. Workshop Tutor: Sophie Woodhouse I have a B.A. and M.A. in arts and have taught and lectured in art and craft for around 25 years. I am most interested in the connection between art and nature, sketching directly from the natural world and using natural history as the inspiration for printmaking and design. I believe that studying the landscape, flora and fauna about us, we can heal ourselves and be moved to protect nature. Above all, art can be sociable, playful and experimental. Severn Gorge Countryside Trust This workshop is being hosted by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a local charity. The Trust’s aim is to promote, protect and conserve the living landscape of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, which has a diverse range of habitats, including wildflower meadows, woodlands and heathlands. But that’s not all! We maintain over 20 kilometres of footpaths, conserve and protect 60 historic structures, run exciting Outdoor Learning and Volunteering Programmes to encourage local people and visitors to engage with the natural environment in a variety of ways. All proceeds from this workshop will support the work of the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust. www.severngorge.org.uk Outdoor Learning Programme 2025/26 Our Outdoor Learning Programme is packed with events that aim to engage you with the natural world, teach new or enhance existing skills and boost your mental health and wellbeing. Time spent outdoors is a wonderful thing that we want to encourage everyone to experience, appreciate and reap the benefits from. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or a complete beginner, there’s something for everyone, from nature journaling to foraging walks, eco-friendly workshops, and creative sessions in the great outdoors. Each event offers a chance to explore the stunning landscape managed by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust. Arts Painting
Portrait painting inspired by John Singer Sargent John Singer Sargent (1856 to 1928) was the most successful portrait painter of this time. A student of Carlos Duran, he dispensed with the traditional academic approach to drawing and painting in favour of the alla prima method which relies on proper placement of tones of paint. Join experienced tutor and well known Scottish artist Suzanne Kemplay for two immersive days of portrait painting in the style of Sargent. Day 1 will start with a short presentation on portraits followed by a series of exercises made to encourage developing our own style of painting. On the afternoon of day 1 we will be sketching out our portraits and starting to establish the composition and tone of our portraits. Day 2 will include short demonstrations on painting features and colour mixing skin tones. We will work towards having a finished portrait by the end of day 2. All materials and refreshments provided morning and afternoon. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the excellent cafe next door. Suitable for all levels - over 16s only. Event is two days - 6th & 7th September (ticket notes 6th September start day) Information Source: Birchwood Art Studio | eventbrite

IN PERSON: Fierce Vulnerability: Healing, Spirit & Action in a Time of Collapse Saturday September 6th 2025 (note, this has been rescheduled from July 19) 10 AM to 4 PM PT ( Time Zone Converter ) With Kazu Haga Open to all The center is fragrance-free and wheelchair accessible N95/KN95 masks required We will discuss the teachings from Kazu Haga's latest book, " Fierce Vulnerability: Healing from Trauma, Emerging through Collapse ". The book invites people into imagining a movement that sees injustice not as a political issue but a manifestation of collective trauma, and therefore understands that we can’t “shut down” injustice anymore than we can “shut down” trauma. Through touching our own heartbreak and vulnerability, we will mobilize the fierceness to stop violence and injustice while cultivating the love necessary to heal it. The workshop will include dharma talks, meditations, role-plays and interactive small group work. All are welcome! Cost The teachings are regarded as priceless. So they are offered without a fee. You are invited to support the teachings and our efforts by contributing voluntary donations (the practice of “Dana”) for the expenses of the meditation center and the support of the teachers. The ticket prices are listed as different tiers with suggested donations based on income ranges. For those who wish to give more, you may choose an "add-on" to your ticket. For those unable to give, there is an option for that. Note that all financial gifts received here go directly to EBMC, and we invite you to give separately to our teachers, using the information below. Other ways to give: To make a gift to sustain the work of East Bay Meditation Center , you may do so via Paypal: paypal.me/eastbaymeditation or our website: eastbaymeditation.org/dana 100% of our programming is sliding scale and no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds. An Evening with Drew G.I. Hart: Making it Plain | Midtown Scholar Bookstore

Hart to Harrisburg for a conversation and signing on his new book, Making it Plain: Why We Need Anabaptism and the Black Church. Registration is free but required to attend this event. Doors will open at 6:00pm; the event will begin at 7:00pm. Seating is general admission; first come, first served. Early arrival is encouraged. Books will be available for purchase at the event. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, or you may preorder a copy of the book via EventBrite. This event will be live-streamed. Every live-stream ticket includes one signed copy of Making it Plain and the live-stream link. The link will be sent at least 24 hours before the event begins. Please check your spam folder if you do not receive the link in time. The books will be shipped via USPS Priority. U.S. addresses only. Please include your shipping address at checkout. About the Book: There is an answer to white Christian supremacy that is centuries in the making. For many oppressed and vulnerable people, Western Christianity has been a nightmare. Just centuries after the life of Jesus, the rise of Western Christendom contorted Christianity into an instrument of domination and violence. The church fused with the state, sanctioning empire-expanding crusades, colonization, and chattel slavery. Author Drew G. I. Hart challenges the church to wake up to how this past persists in the present, calling Christians to confront the living legacy of plundered people and lands in the name of Jesus. Making It Plain offers a novel pathway for Christians to live out a decolonial and antiracist faith in the aftermath of Christendom: the convergence of the radical discipleship of the Anabaptist tradition and the prophetic witness of the Black church. In the witness of Black and Anabaptist Christian communities across time, we find a faith that takes the life and teachings of Jesus seriously. Despite oppression or persecution at the hands of mainstream Christianity, these traditions salvaged a liberating and peacemaking vision of Jesus right under the nose of empire and white supremacy. Weaving together narrative history, theology, and practical guidance, Hart compells readers to engage the best of these faith streams to forge an Anablacktivist faith where everyone belongs, where everyone can thrive, and where everyone matters, especially the last and the least. The shared wisdom of these faith traditions offers signposts towards a Jesus-shaped, Spirit-filled, community-oriented movement capable of surviving and resisting new mutations of white Christian nationalism, antiblackness, and settler colonialism today. About the Author: Drew G. I. Hart is a public theologian and professor of theology at Messiah University. He has ten years of pastoral ministry experience and is the recipient of multiple awards for peacemaking. Hart attained his MDiv with an urban concentration from Missio Seminary and his PhD in theology and ethics from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He is a sought-after speaker at conferences, campuses, and churches across the United States and Canada. His first book, Trouble I’ve Seen: Changing the Way the Church Views Racism , utilizes personal and everyday stories, theological ethics, and anti-racism frameworks to transform the church’s understanding and witness. Hart lives with his wife, Renee, and their three sons in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Prices include applicable PA sales tax and Harrisburg City amusement tax.
