Fine Art
YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED! The Haggerty Museum of Art, in partnership with Sculpture Milwaukee, will present a conversation with Luftwerk, the Chicago-based artist team of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, and collaborator Normal Studio (Renata Graw) on Wednesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Haggerty Museum of Art. The artists created SOS Color Code, an outdoor installation currently on view at the Haggerty. Using the universal languages of Morse code and color theory, a series of printed flags transform the international signal of distress (SOS) into a sign of solidarity and connectedness. A companion indoor installation, Color Code, by Bachmaier and Gallero, presents a painted mural with changing color light projections, also in the form of Morse code dots and dashes. Both installations coincide with the 2024 presidential election and the International Day of Democracy. The International Day of Democracy, celebrated annually on September 15th, was established in 2007 by the UN General Assembly to encourage governments to review, consolidate, and strengthen democracy. The General Election will be held in Wisconsin on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The lecture is scheduled during National Voter Education Week and is a reminder to plan to register and vote. YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED! Presented by Kirk Nickel, PhD, Marc and Lillian Rojtman Curator of European Art Please join us for this engaging 20-minute Lunchtime Talk featuring the work of LaToya Ruby Frazier. Frazier’s art foregrounds the stories of people who are routinely left out of our standard narratives of the American experience. This month’s Art Talk will focus on four photographs from her series The Notion of Family that are currently on view in the Haggerty’s anniversary exhibition The Big 4-0: New Views of the Collection. Taking herself, her family, and her hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania, as her subjects, Frazier’s images find universal resonance in the meaningful details of everyday circumstances. After the discussion, you can stay to continue the conversation or explore the Haggerty's current exhibitions. Information Source: Haggerty Museum of Art | eventbrite
