This career-spanning showcase features an extraordinary collection of acrylic paintings, each reflecting Lone's evolving vision and unparalleled mastery of the medium. From dynamic landscapes to abstract explorations, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the depth and breadth of Lone's creative journey. Renowned for their ability to evoke emotion and spark conversation, Lone's work leaves a lasting impression on the viewer, and this retrospective is a rare opportunity to experience the full scope of their artistry. Artist StatementI paint because I am completely enraptured by the beauty of nature surrounding me. I am captivated by a multitude of dimensions: depth, harmony, form, line, volume, space and colour. These observations touch my soul and it is these mindscapes that appear on my canvases and etchings. My work encompasses my desire to capture the vastness of the universe, while offering a structure that helps define and explain the enormity of it all. At the periphery, I paint using multilayered glazes of thin, filmy colours. As I move toward the centre of things, I lavish the canvas with pigment in thick, textured strata, using colours that become ever more saturated. My pieces have a core of intensity where there is a powerful tension between the rigidly composed elements and the desire to break free of those contraints. My goal is to reveal the hidden beauty of nature.

The Paperboys | Brackendale Art Gallery
Mar 21, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED
Squamish
Doors: 7 pm. Kitchen & Bar will be open! Show: 8pm Standing show with dance floor, very limited seating. This acclaimed Canadian-based band is a globe-touring sextet that, in a single set, can be counted on to stomp through Celtic reels, traditional Mexican folk, fiddle tunes, New Orleans brass band music, classic pop songcraft, bluegrass, and even a philosophical waltz or two, before bringing it all home with a Latino/West African singalong. The heart of The Paperboys is a trio of gifted songwriters and musicians: Founder Tom Landa, a fedora-hatted vocalist/guitarist/bandleader who immigrated from Mexico to Canada in his teens; Kalissa Landa, a lifelong fiddler/vocalist with a preternatural command of melody; and Spirit of the West’s flautist/guitarist/vocalist Geoffrey Kelly, already a Canadian musical icon when he hopped on the P’boys bus in 1997. Though by no means a jam band, The Paperboys reinvent their show every time they step onstage. Once the band agrees on the opening song, there is no set list. The song finishes, the crowd reacts, Landa reads the room, and the journey begins. Every night. The world has changed seismically since 1992, but The Paperboys fan base has stuck with the band, and grown. “It goes beyond perseverance,” Landa says about the band’s legacy, “and into some kind of connectivity and resonance we have with people. We’ve created a community.” Get your tickets because this one is going to sell out fast!
