Through an iterative process of creative exploration and intergenerational knowledge-sharing, she has cultivated a distinctive aesthetic that probes the intricacies of human consciousness. Her works, an assemblage of symbolic and narrative elements, invite contemplation on the complexities of the human experience, thereby illuminating the intersections between the individual psyche and the collective unconscious.Artist BioKaty McManus is a self-taught artist born in the United States, shaped by the mentorship of her grandfather (DzaDzi), a US Marine Captain who imparted lessons of discipline and resilience. Katy immigrated from Indonesia and is focused on establishing her artistic career in Australia. Endeavouring to do so with an open mind and heart while cultivating respectful, harmonious, and mutually beneficial relationships with the local culture and art communities.
Katy has been shaped by her experiences and encounters. Having visited many different countries, she has developed a unique perspective on the complexities of human existence. These adventures have had a profound impact on her worldview and artistic perspective.
As an artist, Katy's work is deeply personal and introspective. She draws from her own experiences and observations to create art that is both intimate and thoughtful. Her paintings and stories are infused with a sense of mystery, empathy and compassion, born from her own encounters with people from diverse backgrounds.
Katy's experimental techniques with gilding, charcoal, pastels, oil paints and textiles is a reflection of her own growth and exploration as a person. Her art is characterized by its honesty, vulnerability, and sensitivity. Through her work, she invites viewers to share in her experiences & perspectives, inviting them to reflect on their own lives and connections with others through original characters, lore, mythologies and dogmas.
With a deep respect for the human experience, Katy's art is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of human connection. Her work reminds us that even with all of man’s differences, we are all connected through our shared experiences and emotions.
