Behrang Karimi | Morena di Luna
May 31–Sep 7, 2025 (UTC)
Hove
Karimi uses a range of methods, including monotypes, wood- and linocuts and gouache; combined, they create a lively dialogue between the artist and his work. Landscapes and views are often merely hinted at – humans are the true heart of Karimi’s work, appearing as portraits, in classic poses, as lying and seated nudes, alone and in groups. The room around them is diffuse, sometimes suggested by a doorway flooded with light, other times by another person appearing at the edge of the picture. Two people face one another, rigid as statues, separated by a light expanse of color, of water? His figures seem delicate and brittle, as does the scenery they move within. They all portray small episodes within a unique moment – like the worm crawling towards the apple – that disappear almost before we have fully grasped their significance.

Speed Dating in Brighton for 20s & 30s | Fitz Regent
Jul 2, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
How Speed Dating Works in Brighton
When you arrive at the Brighton venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date.
You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't.
At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day.
Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches.
Post Event
No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next

A TRICK OF THE MIND: How The Brain Invents Your Reality | The Grand Central, Brighton
Jul 7, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
For decades, scientists have tried to understand how our brains work, not realising that the answer lies much closer to home than it seems.
The latest research in neuroscience and psychology suggests that the brain is doing the same thing that the scientists are: using past experiences to build theories of how the world works, and using these models to predict and make sense of it. Through this process, your brain constructs the reality that you live in.
Daniel Yon takes the research one step further, uncovering how your brain colours your perception of the world, the judgements you make about other people and the beliefs you form about yourself. Daniel will revolutionise the way you think, with transformative applications for how we engage with other communities and approach mental illness.
Daniel Yon
is an experimental psychologist, cognitive neuroscientist and director of
The Uncertainty Lab
at Birkbeck, University of London - where he is now Associate Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience. In 2023 he was made a Visiting Fellow of the

You'll work hands on with the machine experimenting and exploring different applications and materials. The team encourage you to bring along some projects to try out such as re-tipping, ring sizing, jump & bolt ring securing, porosity repair, working around stones, chain repair or watch repairs. Bring along items in the style you like to work in and the materials you use every day to see what a laser welder can do for you.
What will I learn?
You'll learn how to use the Dado laser welder in your workshop practice. You'll learn how to operate and maintain the machine, how to choose the right settings and welding wire for different applications and projects and how to prepare pieces for welding.
What is included?
All tools and equipment are provided. We will have jump rings, chain, and sheet metal to complete some simple experiments and welds. Please bring your own projects and challenges to test out how the laser works for what you do.

ABOUT THE BOOK Bitter Sweet is a thought-provoking exploration of a relationship founded in power, control and silence, perfect for book clubs. It will be published worldwide this July. 'In my life, there are things that have happened to me, and things that I have done, that have proven to be moments that have a clear before and an after. One of those moments, perhaps in some ways the biggest, was the day that I met Richard Aveling for the first time.' Charlie is twenty-three, single and the new publicity assistant at the independent London publishing house Winden & Shane. Richard Aveling is fifty-six, married and the author that has defined his generation. Charlie has long idolised the charming, illustrious writer, who also represents a link to her late mother, who loved his work. But as they embark on an illicit and all-consuming affair, Charlie is forced to hide the relationship from everyone she cares about. And when the success of Richard's latest book launches him to a new level of fame where all anonymity is lost, she realises she might just be in too deep... 'I inhaled this novel. Utterly believable, immersive and heartfelt. I loved it' JENNIE GODFREY 'Hattie's writing on early-20s friendships and their enmeshed intensity, was so convincing. I enjoyed it so much' MARIAN KEYES 'A timeless tragedy, a story of the intricacies and illusions of true love' CHRIS WHITAKER 'Beautifully crafted, with aftershocks of conscience' JODI PICOULT 'Sharp, compelling, and thought provoking. The perfect book club pick for 2025' LOUISE O'NEILL --- www.hattiewilliams.com
