The evening features both a concert and a community dance with one of Canada’s leading fiddlers Pierre Schryer, North American folk dance specialist Danielle Enblom, and guitar virtuoso Adam Dobres. At intermission, part of the hall will be cleared for the community dance. Guests will be invited to participate in the called dance or continue to sit and listen to the musical programme. The event family-friendly, no experience necessary. Join us on Friday, February 7 for a thrilling performance with FIDDELIUM(pronounced “fi-DELL-ee-um”). This Nanaimo-based youth fiddle ensemble puts on a high-energy, professionally polished show that features traditional and contemporary folk music from around the world. This is not your average fiddle group: Fiddelium has represented Vancouver Island on the national stage several times and was awarded the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Award in recognition of their outstanding performance skills. This year’s concert features tunes from Scotland, Quebec, Sweden, Ireland, Spain, Texas and British Columbia. While it is challenging to fully describe what this group sounds like, you might compare them to Barrage or Bowfire (minus the pyrotechnics).Don’t be fooled: this group of 17 youth will completely amaze you with their musicianship and stage presence.
