The NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home - Classroom is an advanced 10-hour course that equips students with the necessary skills to protect their loved ones and property within the confines of their own home. This educational program, offered by Personal Best Firearms Training Inc. in Saint Charles, IL, provides participants with the fundamental knowledge, abilities, and mindset required for the safe and effective use of a handgun for self-defense purposes. In line with this, it also aims to educate attendees on the lawful rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. Throughout the course, students will receive comprehensive instruction on a range of topics, including essential defensive shooting techniques, strategies for home security and handling violent confrontations, firearm legislation, and handgun selection for self-defense. Furthermore, the curriculum emphasizes ongoing opportunities for skill development, enabling participants to continuously enhance their defensive shooting abilities. Students will receive a student packet, consisting of the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and a Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet. Key areas covered in the course include safe firearm handling, firearm and ammunition selection for home defense, defensive shooting fundamentals, legal aspects of firearms use and the use of deadly force, and defensive shooting skills and drills. To be eligible for participation, individuals must be law-abiding adults over the age of 21 who can visually demonstrate proficiency in basic gun handling skills, group shooting, handgun sight zeroing, and firearm cleaning. Students are required to bring a centerfire handgun suitable for home defense, along with the recommended quantity of practice ammunition (200-250 rounds) and appropriate eye and ear protection. Please note that the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home - Classroom is an intermediate-level course and may not be suitable for beginners or those with limited experience in firearms. Acceptable proof of prerequisite experience includes an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing a Pre-Course Assessment (details available upon contacting the instructor). In the event of inclement weather, which may necessitate the completion of the shooting portion of the class at an indoor shooting facility, additional range charges will apply. The USA Bowling Coaching program hosts an annual FREE seminar called the USA Bowling Coaching Seminar. This seminar takes place approximately 50 times a year all over the country, including at Hillside Bowl in Hillside, IL. The main objective of this seminar is to educate attendees on the essential skills required to teach the fundamentals of bowling to young people. Anyone with an interest in furthering their knowledge on coaching youth bowling is welcome to attend this FREE seminar. During the seminar, participants have access to a variety of valuable materials that have been developed by the USBC Coaching Development team. These materials include a comprehensive manual consisting of over 140 pages, covering everything from coaching philosophy to physical game techniques and basic skill drills. In addition, there is an 8-week lesson plan which provides an easy-to-follow guide for coaches to monitor their bowlers' progress week-to-week. To assist coaches on the lanes, there are Quick Reference Guides 1 & 2, which are double-sided laminated sheets featuring a glossary of terms, on-lane drills, and fundamentals. Participants will use second hand material to create a 3D collage that represents their life and where they live. What symbolises neighbourhood and community for them personally? For example, they may choose to represent visiting the beach or park. They could depict local wildlife or vegetation, or they could represent the built environment e.g., their local shops or restaurants. The workshop is run in connection with a competition and exhibition to follow. Local artist (Annie Rawle) will lead the workshop and show you how to combine your own pictures and models with found objects and images. She will teach craft techniques focused on using recycled materials, for example, wire, wood, paper, cardboard along with glue, thread and paints etc. You’ll get worksheets and ideas of what to create to fit the theme. This fun and friendly workshop will be very hands-on and all participants will have an opportunity to create their own art piece on the day. After the workshop you will take home your work to finish at home if neede, then deliver it in its frame for exhibition and judging (if you choose to enter the competition). The artwork must be contained within a single box style frame (provided with ticket payment). All other materials will be provided on the day. The workshop is run in connection with a competition and exhibition with details to follow soon. All materials on the day of the workshop will be free ( including a box frame) but you may need some basic things at home to finish, for example paint, glue etc. The attendees can choose whether to enter their art into the subsequent art competition.
