About The Thing About Jellyfish Playing January 31 to March 9 at Berkeley Rep. Play tickets now on sale -- attendees of this docent talk will receive 20% off tickets for Berkeley Rep's 2024-25 season. During the last week of summer vacation, 12-year-old Suzy Swanson learns that her best friend Franny has drowned. Desperate to make sense of Franny’s death, Suzy immerses herself in her own imagination, where she can circumnavigate the globe, plunge into the terrifying depths of the ocean, explore the collapsed stars of the most distant galaxies, and perhaps even solve the mysteries of the universe. Adapted from the best-selling novel, The Thing About Jellyfish is a visually stunning and deeply emotional coming-of-age tale about love, loss, friendship, and the profound expansiveness of the human spirit. About the Docent Program The Berkeley Rep Docent Program is part of the theatre’s commitment to provide education and enrichment opportunities about the plays it presents in each season. The Docent Program has grown steadily since its inception in 2005. It is part of Berkeley Rep’s goal to engage the theatre’s audience and the community in a dialogue of ideas. Docents are volunteers who are theater-lovers. They facilitate Post-Show Discussions after matinees at Berkeley Rep to provide an opportunity for audience members to discuss their experience of seeing a play. Docents also give Talks in the community to provide information about each play and create shared experience through a discussion around plays. The talks cover historical and cultural context, the playwright’s intent, the process of the development of the play, and production elements. Talks also include discussion questions. Participants do not have to have seen a performance of the play to participate in the discussion. Both the Berkeley Rep Docent Post-Show Discussions at the theatre and the Docent Talks in the community broaden the conversation about theatre and the world it creates. Cancellation Policy We reserve the right to cancel at any time and issue a full refund. If you are unable to attend this event, please email programs@milibrary.org or call 415-393-0103 by Friday, January 31, 2025, to receive a full refund less any non-refundable ticketing fees which may be applicable.
