Shared Roots and Interconnected Branches: The Importance of National Culture and Sentiment within the Heart of Macao’s Historical Buildings | Macao Museum
Oct 31–Dec 1, 2024 (UTC+8)ENDED
Macau
Macau is a city where diverse cultures coexist harmoniously. It not only has southern European and Portuguese architecture and culture, but also has Chinese historical buildings that have been passed down from generation to generation. Chinese culture has a long history and is continuous. In addition to its historical and cultural value, it has also become a venue for intangible cultural heritage activities and integrated into the daily lives of residents.
Many of Macau's historical buildings are closely linked to modern Chinese history and patriotic patriots. Among them, Zheng Guanying completed his world-famous masterpiece "Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity" in the Zhengjia House in Macau. The book discusses the influence of several generations of great men; the former residence of patriotic general Ye Ting in Macau is still well preserved, and his heroic deeds are widely praised; and buildings such as the Kiang Wu Hospital, Tung Sin Tong, and Guanyin Hall witnessed that all walks of life united in providing relief during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, rushed to the front line, and defended the motherland's territory, composing a story of the same roots and blood.
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government is organizing the exhibition “Same Roots and Branches – Love for the Country in Macao’s Historical Buildings”. Through a selection of more than 100 exhibits, it tells the public about the continuous and consistent love for the country.
