Lynda Barry, a recipient of the prestigious 2019 MacArthur Genius Grant, is a highly accomplished and versatile artist. With a wide range of talents, she has excelled as a painter, cartoonist, writer, illustrator, playwright, editor, commentator, and teacher. Barry's remarkable career includes the creation of the iconic comic strip "Ernie Pook's Comeek," which captivated audiences across North America for twenty years. This beloved strip introduced readers to unforgettable characters like Marlys and Freddy. Barry's literary contributions extend beyond comics, as she has authored several acclaimed works, such as "The Freddie Stories," "One! Hundred! Demons!," "The! Greatest! of! Marlys!," "Cruddy: An Illustrated Novel," "Naked Ladies! Naked Ladies! Naked Ladies!," and "The Good Times are Killing Me," which garnered the Washington State Governor's Award and was adapted into an off-Broadway play. Notably, Barry's creative expertise extends to the realm of teaching, as she has penned four best-selling and highly regarded how-to graphic novels: "What It Is," which was honored with the Eisner Award for Best Reality Based Graphic Novel and R.R.
