Join the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and its global impact on dance at the Hip Hop 50 - Celebrating Hip Hop Dance Scholarship event. This festival is a three-part series of panels, workshops, and dancing, showcasing the rich scholarship, archives, culture, and practice of Hip Hop.
The first event in this series, taking place on September 20, 2023, will feature a musical essay by DJ Lynnée Denise, renowned for her DJ Scholarship movement that redefines the role of the DJ as an archivist and cultural custodian. Following that, a Hip Hop scholarship panel will celebrate the publication of the Oxford Handbook of Hip Hop Dance Studies, with esteemed editors Imani Kai Johnson and Mary Fogarty in conversation with USC Kaufman professors E. Moncell Durden and Naomi Bragin.
After the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Hip Hop dance workshops, open to all, where they can learn and experience the infectious energy of Hip Hop dance.

CASA Encore 2023 is a Panhellenic-wide dance competition that aims to support CASA of North Mississippi, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the best interests of abused and neglected children. Through the appointment of court-appointed, screened, and trained community volunteers, CASA of North Mississippi strives to change the stories of these vulnerable children across the county. The College Panhellenic community is thrilled to be a part of this important mission.
This year, CASA Encore 2023 will be held on September 21 at 7:30 PM in the Pavilion at Ole Miss, located at 762 All American Drive, Oxford, MS 38655. This event provides an opportunity for everyone in the community to come together and show their support for the children who need it the most.
By attending CASA Encore 2023, you'll not only have a chance to enjoy a captivating dance competition, but you'll also be making a difference in the lives of these children. Hanna Gaifman, a distinguished Artistic Manager, will explore how Bach's music has transcended time and borders. Richard O. Prum, an Evolutionary Biologist from Yale University, will give insights into the role that beauty plays in nature and societies. Michael Harris, a mathematician from Columbia University, will reveal the intricate mathematical structures within Bach's compositions. Together, these panelists will embark on a journey that combines the realms of art, music, science, and mathematics, shedding new light on Bach's compositions. The event will feature performances by Laurence Dreyfus and Arthur Haas, Visiting Professor of Harpsichord at Yale School of Music.
