Participants will engage in three drawing activities that encourage curiosity and active observation, enhancing learning outcomes. By slowing down and closely examining their surroundings, educators can gain a deeper understanding of what often goes unnoticed. Drawing serves as a tool for discovery, allowing teachers to visually represent their observations. Alisa Petersen, the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Endowed Chair of Elementary Arts Education at Southern Utah University, brings her expertise in art and education to guide participants in this transformative experience. With a background in teaching, coordination, and outreach, Alisa combines her passion for art and creative exploration to develop and deliver arts-based learning experiences. Classroom teachers, university students, arts educators, and school administrators are all encouraged to attend this workshop. The event is made possible by Arts Are Core, a program that offers professional learning opportunities in arts education. This initiative is supported by the Sorenson Legacy Foundation and collaborates with BTS Arts. Licensed educators can also earn USBE relicensure hours through participation. "The Art of Noticing" will take place at Edith Bowen Laboratory School in Logan, Utah, on October 24, 2023. Admission to the workshop is free.
