Held at Kodokan and Kairakuen, the festival is famous for its plum blossoms, a traditional sign of spring in Mito. Kairakuen has over 3,000 plum trees of 100 varieties, each blooming at different times and for long periods of time, making them easy to see. The festival features a variety of events, including an open-air tea ceremony, a photography festival, and a floating puppet event. In an event called "Night Plum Festival," the entire garden is lit up by candlelight, creating a mysterious atmosphere. Fireworks displays are also a highlight of the event.
