But what is it like to work there and what does it take?We’ll be joined by a panel of experienced BBC staff, from a Woman’s Hour producer, to a 5Live Sport presenter and more, to hear their insights and career stories. From BBC1 to iPlayer, ten UK-wide radio networks including Radio 2 to Asian Network, 40 local radio stations, digital services including BBC News, Sport, Weather and CBBC, as well as the BBC World Service providing news in more than 40 languages – there’s a world of opportunity. Join us for the 4th edition of our Sign Language Film Club & Deaf Awareness Event and enjoy a free filming screening of Children of a Lesser God (1986) in American Sign Language (ASL) with English subtitles for people who are Deaf and hard of hearing. The screening will be followed by an optional Q&A. Children of a Lesser God is a powerful drama exploring communication, identity, and the experiences of the Deaf community. This film challenges stereotypes and encourages empathy, making it a must-watch for students and the younger generation. The Sign Language Film Club is organised by Ugo Marsili, School Lead of Disability Awareness and Diversity & Inclusion Trainer at the University of Reading. Ugo is an expert in Deaf awareness and audiovisual translation. As a previous BSL student, Ugo established the BSL language provision at the University in 2017, leading a dedicated team that has inspired hundreds of students and staff. The Club launched in February 2024 as part of the Languages for All programme at the University of Reading. This special gathering aims to foster a deeper understanding of the Deaf community by exploring language, communication, and accessibility. This is a course for people with very little (if any) knowledge of bike maintenance. Please bring your own cleaned bike along as well as an inner tube. You will learn the following: - How to check your bike. - How to change an inner tube in the event of a puncture. - How to clean & oil your bike. - You have the chance to get Ad Hoc maintenance advice from our instructor. Note: this is a basic Bike Maintenance course aimed at people with no or little bike maintenance knowledge, we will not be demonstrating more complex repair type issues that you would typically use a bike shop for.
