David White: The Whittlings – Contemporary Love Spoon Workshop 25/01/25 10.00am - 4.00pm £60 (Includes all materials and tea and coffee) Age group – Adults Location: Education Room On St Dwynwen’s Day lovers have exchanged love spoons as part of a tradition that has lasted centuries. Come and work with David White to create a special contemporary love spoon for the love in your life. Under David’s expert guidance you will learn basic skills in carving green wood and create a contemporary design using ancient traditions. Tuning In - gesture, stories and movement with Jane Sutcliffe 07/01/25 10.00am - 4.00pm £45 (Includes all materials and tea and coffee) Age group – Adults Location: Education Room Working with physical theatre performer Jane Sutcliffe you will draw themes from Eleanor Glover’s exhibition Hidden in there Somewhere to create your own narratives through gesture, story and movement. We will relax at the end of the day with yoga and breath work. Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move in and bring a yoga mat and blanket if you have one. Each session will begin by looking at the current exhibitions and will be followed by a making session relating to the exhibition - there will be plenty of opportunity to practise your Cymraeg during this creative session. Brian Crossley Chair Caning Workshop 11-12/01/25 10.00am - 4.30pm (both days) £100 (Includes all materials and tea and coffee) Please bring a packed lunch or dine in the Café Location: Education Room Age group – Adults Do you have a caned dining or bedroom chair with a seat that requires restoration? Bring it to the education room at Ruthin Craft Centre for an opportunity to undertake this specialist craft under the expert guidance of Brian Crossley MBE, a second generation Chair Caner. On the first day there will be a brief presentation on the history and development of Chair Caning. The event is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. There is no set course and all participants go at their own speed to suit the complexity of their chair. Cane materials will be supplied at no cost, specialist tools loaned and a comprehensive set of notes issued. This workshop is the final one in our series for the Basketry exhibition. Basketmakers and Chair Caners have been together since 1698 in the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers and from 1975 in the Basketmakers' Association, which links remain firm today. You will need to provide an image of your chair prior to the workshop. Please indicate your consent to share your email with Brian for this purpose on the booking form.
