Political Street Theatre Workshop | Quaker Meeting House
Jan 18, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Lancaster
We're organising a workshop for activists, performers, writers, musicians, and anyone who wants to provoke new ways of thinking and talking about the multiple and connected political crises we face, through street theatre/performance. The day will be led by scholar and activist David Calder (University of Manchester). We are intending to start with a session by David, introducing us to some of the history of key moments and movements in political street theatre, but from the practical point of view of learning from the past. This will help us understand how we may reapply and develop the ideas for the current moment.
The day will be fairly open ended, allowing us to move in to some practical experimentation, and/or small group discussions to explore the ideas further, and work out where we'll take the work next. The event will be limited to 20 participants, and is free, but you need to register for a place beforehand. Coming to the day doesn't commit you to engaging in political street theatre, but is intended for those who actively interested in the idea of perhaps doing so. You will need to bring your own lunch but hot drinks will be provided.
We intend to create a space and a way of working which is anti-racist, LGBTQ+ inclusive, feminist, pro-immigration, anti-fascist, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Sensory Friendly Programming Session | Lancaster Museum of Art and History
Jan 4, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED
Lancaster
MOAH’s sensory-friendly programming boasts an array of resources and services for neurodivergent guests before and during the museum experience. Beginning with the social narrative, which is available on MOAH’s website, guests can read a first-person description of a trip to MOAH, with important details regarding parking, entrance/exit points, restrooms, and how to access on-site sensory-friendly resources. Guests can attend special open hours, which occur before the museum opens to the public. During these special open hours, the lighting in the museum is dimmed and the audio components of artworks are lowered. Upon arrival at the museum, guests are offered a sensory-friendly programming map, which pin-points changes in light and noise, along with the exact locations of hands-on sensory-friendly programming activities. Guests with hyper/hypo-sensitivities also have access to a take-a-break space on the bottom level of the museum. This room is sectioned off from main walkways and contains calming tools and water within a quiet, dimly lit space. Speech cards, in both Spanish and English, are available at the guest services desk to assist non-verbal visitors. Optional sensory-friendly programming activities include the multi-sensory tour and a hands-on art activity. The multi-sensory tour is a self-guided tour with stations throughout the museum. Each station focuses on a single work of art and includes an object or objects that can be used to enhance the viewer’s sensory experience of the artwork. Tour “stations” allow guests to engage with staff members and multi-sensory items on a volunteer basis. The voluntary, hands-on art activity, offered in the MOAH classroom, is designed to adapt to hyper- and hypo-sensitivities, as well as multiple age groups and abilities. In many cases, the finished art project doubles as a fidget or calming tool that can be used while exploring the museum.
