Held at Kodokan and Kairakuen, the festival is famous for its plum blossoms, a traditional sign of spring in Mito. Kairakuen has over 3,000 plum trees of 100 varieties, each blooming at different times and for long periods of time, making them easy to see. Mito Azalea Festival, held at Kairakuen, Senbako Park and Mito City Forest Park from late April to early May, coinciding with the flowering period of azaleas. 380 types of azaleas, such as Kirishima azaleas and white bellflowers, bloom as expected, and Kairakuen is covered in a sea of ​​red and white flowers. In Mito City Forest Park, more than 10,000 mountain azaleas and Kurume azaleas bloom, creating a colorful spring-like atmosphere. Various events are held during the festival, including open-air tea parties.

The fireworks display will be held at Lake Senba near the center of Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture. As part of the Mito Komon Festival, about 5,000 fireworks are expected to be launched. A variety of unique fireworks will be set off, and you can also enjoy the fireworks reflected on the lake. Parts of the venue will also have paid viewing seats so you can enjoy the fireworks at a leisurely pace. The giant "Music Star Thunder", the finale of the celebration, will use the latest technology and be perfectly synchronized with the music, which will surely cause cheers. The Mito Komon Festival is a festival for Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito Domain in Ibaraki Prefecture. The event is held on the first Saturday and Sunday of August every year in the shopping district in the center of Mito City. Its name comes from the famous figure "Mito Komon" who has a connection with the city of Mito. In the past, Nishimura Akira and his entourage would be invited as guests and parade through Mito City, which was called the "Komon Daimyo Parade". The event was discontinued in the early 1990s, but it was resumed as the "Mito Komon Parade" from the 43rd session in 2003.
