Presented by Hang Seng Bank and organized by Yaorong Culture, The Nextwave XX25 Beach Music Festival returns with great acclaim, becoming one of the most anticipated music festivals in Hong Kong. From July 5 to 6 this year, it will once again take place at Grand White Bay Beach. The organizers have invited top singers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea to let music fans experience a sizzling summer. This year's music festival is themed around "Romance" and "Friendship." The second day of The Nextwave XX25 Beach Music Festival features an impressive lineup of top South Korean singers performing at Grand White Bay Beach, themed around "Friendship." The performers include ITZY, CHUNG HA (Jeong Hwa), Dragon Pony, and GENBLUE. ITZY quickly rose to fame after their debut. Their debut song "DALLA DALLA" achieved the remarkable feat of winning nine championships in Korean music shows, including seven from cable TV stations. They said, "We are very excited to participate in the beach music festival in Hong Kong. Such stages are rare in Korea! We might need to prepare some waterproof performance outfits so we can join the beach party right after our performance!" South Korean singer CHUNG HA is also a very popular artist. She has won the Best Pop Album Award, and her music has been streamed over 1 billion times. Her participation in The Nextwave XX25 Beach Music Festival will undoubtedly make her the focus of attention. GENBLUE, a Taiwanese group that debuted in South Korea, won the KPOP Newcomer Award at the Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards last year. M+, Asia’s first global contemporary visual museum, will host “Picasso: Dialogue with Asia”, showcasing more than 60 masterpieces created by Picasso between 1890 and 1970, as well as works from Asia and overseas in the M+ collection. This exhibition is the first major Picasso exhibition held in Hong Kong in more than a decade, and the first time that the collection of the Musée National Picasso in Paris will be displayed together with the collection of Asian museums. By allowing the European master to have an unprecedented cross-cultural and contemporary dialogue with Asian contemporary art works, Picasso’s enduring artistic influence will be demonstrated.

Canton Modernpresents twentieth-century Cantonese art and visual culture in its full complexity as an important chapter in global modernism. United in a shared linguistic and cultural identity, the southern port cities of Guangzhou (also known as Canton) and Hong Kong were historically marginal in China. The birthplace of revolution, the two cities gave rise to a distinctive visual and artistic modernism, one shaped by cross-cultural interactions and tensions between conservative and progressive artworlds. Cantonese artists broke away from the elegant poetics of classical ink painting to forge a socially oriented realism, depicting subjects ranging from leisure and labour to war and disaster. Working as journalists and publishers, they exploited the immediacy and circulation of print, photography, and cartoons to intervene in and even reform society.

The HK Phil concludes the season with a grand finale, featuring a collaboration between two Musical America favourites: 2018 Instrumentalist of the Year Augustin Hadelich and 2012 Conductor of the Year Jaap van Zweden. Known for his captivating tone and passionate interpretations, Hadelich makes a highly anticipated return to the HK Phil stage with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a work he “can never get enough of”. "Chen Fushan Studio" uses Chen Fushan's home studio as a reference, and selects his personal belongings from his former residence in Wan Chai, including various household furnishings, hand-painted paintings and collections of books for display, in order to reproduce Chen's living environment and the layout when he was painting. Visitors can take a look at the original appearance of his former creative space outside the glass room, explore Chen's creative world with another visual experience, and gain a deeper understanding of the multiple aspects of this local artist. "Chen Fushan Studio" also leads the audience to review Chen's artistic journey and style development by displaying historical photos and text records about Chen's life, and wander in the story that created the legendary life of the "Watercolor King". Based on the contemporary era, it traces the trajectory of Hong Kong art history from the side.

And Thus Is This Land extends this collaborative process into the present. It asks participants to engage with each other, the artist, the original painters, and the poem that sparked this chain of creative work. They will navigate the tension between copying and adaptation, arriving at a work that both resembles the original yet is also wholly new.

"The Purple Hairpin" was grandly performed in 2010 in Hong Kong, Foshan, and Guangzhou. This production was a cultural and artistic exchange work meticulously crafted by teams from five cities: Hong Kong, Foshan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. At the time, the show underwent a forward-thinking reform, making it highly striking and leading the aesthetic trends of contemporary art while keeping pace with the times. In terms of design, the traditional four-hour script of "The Purple Hairpin" was condensed into two and a half hours, with experts from the five cities collaborating on the music, set design, lighting, and costumes. The stage design was inspired by an exquisite "gift box", presenting this Refined production as a grand offering to the audience. An innovative concept was adopted, using a long silk satin cloth for rapid scene changes, and through a unique fusion of light and shadow, it created a sense of separation between humanity and space. This approach elegantly showcased the love story of Li Yi and Huo Xiaoyu in a fresh and novel way. The production created a distinctive visual effect, breaking away from traditional performance models. With graceful sleeve movements and elegant music, these design arrangements aimed to provide the audience with an unforgettable viewing experience.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office will hold the first "Hong Kong ICH Month" in June this year, with the focus on "Intangible Cultural Heritage is Everywhere in Hong Kong", to highlight that in Hong Kong, a small place, there is ICH everywhere, to enhance the understanding of ICH among citizens and tourists, and to experience the cultural connotation and fun of ICH firsthand. Representing Hong Kong in a Collateral Event at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Trevor Yeung returns to M+ with a new configuration of his commissioned solo exhibition, Trevor Yeung: Courtyard of Attachments, Hong Kong in Venice. Yeung’s installations explore the relationships between human and aquatic ecosystems and comment on the emotional disconnections and power dynamics of contemporary society. Restaged in a museum setting, the exhibition shifts focus to discuss larger environmental and systemic issues. This response exhibition is part of the sixth collaboration between M+ and Hong Kong Arts Development Council on Hong Kong’s presentation during the Biennale.
