This creative writing workshop will offer storytellers an opportunity to explore the theme of belonging through writing prompts and collective editing. The session will begin with tips and techniques for telling powerful stories. Participants will engage in a short writing prompt followed by an editing exercise designed to reveal new insights and dimensions within their personal stories. An optional story-sharing process will help participants see the connections between their stories, their identities, their pasts, their aspirations, and the community in the room. The workshop will include grounding activities and space for reflection throughout the session. No creative writing experience is necessary. Dr. Ngozi “N/A” Oparah is a writer, researcher, and artist. Ngozi holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Philosophy from Duke University. Ngozi completed her PhD at Loughborough University where she explored how stories affect our community and individual understanding and experiences of mental health. For nearly a decade, Ngozi served as the Director of Community Programs at StoryCenter, a digital storytelling non-profit, where she instructed in multimedia storytelling, autofiction, poetry, podcasting, and memoir writing. Ngozi currently works as a lecturer on the MASc in Creative Health Degree at UCL and facilitates storytelling and writing workshops worldwide through her storytelling organization, Tellmore. Her research focuses on storytelling and creative methodologies as tools for research, engagement, wellbeing, and community development. This session is part of (be)longing, a Bethlem Gallery project supporting artist Daniel Regan to explore the theme of belonging in the lead up to his solo exhibition at the gallery in spring 2026. About Bethlem Gallery events Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Concessions are available for SLaM service users, people over 60, students, people receiving ESA, people registered disabled and their carers. We take photos at our workshops to use on social media – please speak to the facilitator if you do not want to appear in any photos.
