The Magic of Books Monthly lecture series with William Kiesel Presented by PRS and Ouroboros Press In the PRS LIBRARY! Lecture Four: Secret Books of the Rosicrucians Q&A to follow the lecture Lecture Series Overview “Without books, there is no memory, and without memory, a culture cannot exist.” - Fernando Báez Join William Kiesel for a series of engaging talks on books and book culture surrounding the wisdom traditions housed in the PRS Library. Books are vessels of coagulated thought, distilled and filtered through the minds of authors, artists and adepts. Understanding the technology of the book and the laboratory of the library grants the seeker access to the esoteric secrets that can aid them on their journey of discovery. Presented in the peaceful environs of the PRS Library, William uses some of the bibilographic treasures of the library to illustrate multi-disciplined topics aimed at bringing deeper awareness into these important literary tools which have preserved the ageless wisdom for centuries. July 10 - Secret Books of the Rosicrucians In the seventeenth century secret Rosicrucian manuscripts were passed around Europe offering explosive new viewpoints in religion and esotericism, including astrology, alchemy, cabala and divine theurgy. These ideas formed a flashpoint of controversy and sparked a growing movement that has influenced many esoteric practitioners down to modern times. This library talk will exhibit some of the Rosicrucian holdings of the PRS library and feature a particular Rosicrucian text and its influences, the Codex Rosae Crucis, published by Manly P. Hall in 1938. About William Kiesel William Kiesel has walked the path of esotericism for over 30 years. His practical experience and historical knowledge of occult literature and culture draws from such diverse disciplines as Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, Qabalah, Thelema, Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, Theosophy, and Ceremonial Magic. With his decades as an antiquarian bookseller, his training in letterpress printing and bookbinding, Kiesel brings his love of books and scholarship together as publisher at Ouroboros Press. He is also faculty at 22 Teachings School of Hermetic Science and Magical Arts. www.bookarts.org Ticket Price: $22 (In Person Only) Please email events@prs.org or phone 323-663-2167 with any questions. About Difficult GirlsA teen girl’s attempt at social reinvention takes a deadly turn when a co-worker disappears—and she learns she may have been the last person to see the missing girl—in this razor-sharp, murderously funny thriller debut.
After the incident last year, Greta Riley Green is looking for reinvention—a fresh start—and a job at Hyper Kid Magic Land, the local amusement park, seems like the perfect way to forge a new path . . . no matter what it takes.
So when fate pulls Greta into Mercy Goodwin’s orbit, it feels like things are looking up. Beautiful and confident, Mercy dazzles audiences daily. And at the first party of the summer, she picks Greta to confide in. Mercy has a secret to share, if Greta will just meet her the next day. It’s a sign that Greta’s truly fitting in.
Only, when the time comes, Mercy is a no-show—as she is everyday after that—and Greta knows something’s wrong. She can’t help thinking back to the night of the party. Did Mercy seem upset? Terrified, even? Could she be in trouble? It wouldn’t be the first time a talented young performer came to a sinister end at Hyper Kid. . . .
Of course, Greta has her own issues with the past, and the more she uncovers Hyper Kid’s secrets, the more her own threaten to surface. This job was meant to be a reboot, a summer without trouble. But trouble, it seems, finds Greta, and her past—and the bloody past of Hyper Kid—is about to catch up with her. Praise“A thrilling debut. Boulevard
Flow & Create is a gentle, “soft guided” art workshop designed for children aged 8 and up. It’s all about process art, letting go of perfection, pressure, or outcome, and instead allowing colours, music, and intuition to guide the creative experience. Participants are encouraged to explore art materials freely. They’ll experiment with layering, brushwork, colour play, and texture in a safe, supportive environment that focuses on expression rather than results. There’s no pressure to draw or paint something “real”, this is a chance to tune into feelings and let them take shape on the page. Perfect for creative kids, deep thinkers, and those who might feel anxious about making art “the right way,” Flow & Create provides a nurturing space to explore, discover, and connect with their inner world through intuitive making. All materials are provided, and no prior art experience is needed. Just bring curiosity and an open heart. Parents are welcome to stay if that feels more comfortable. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on, things might get a little messy in the most magical way! Want to book a full day?
