Learn Social Hand Dancing on Thursdays, January 9th-30th, 2025 | Slayton House

Dance
Our first Hand Dance class was a resounding success! We received incredible encouragement to continue these enriching classes. Eventbrite shows one date, but this ticket covers ALL DATES in January. Eventbrite doesn't let us sell individual dates so we had to set it up under one date. Call Brenda for any questions. Imagine this: you're at a party, the music's playing – maybe some classic Motown, perhaps a timeless jazz number. Everyone's having a great time, but what kind of dancing do you see? You might think of ballroom, but often, the music calls for something more spontaneous, more improvisational. That's where Hand Dance comes in. Born in the vibrant nightclubs of 1920s New York City as an offshoot of the Lindy Hop, Hand Dance evolved through the Jitterbug era, ultimately finding its own unique rhythm. These energetic dances traveled across the country, with each community adding its own unique flair. In the Washington D.C. area, the late Lawrence Bradford, a dedicated educator, championed Hand Dance, recognizing its significance as an original American folk dance. Inspired by Mr. Bradford's legacy, we're thrilled to bring authentic Hand Dance to Columbia, Maryland. Our first class was a fantastic experience, and we're excited to continue the journey! Join us for our next session, starting January 9th. Every Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Slayton House Activity Center in Wilde Lake. Experience the joy of this social dance, characterized by its six-count rhythm and the playful interplay between partners. Come, let's keep this vibrant tradition alive! Class Dates: January 9, 2025January 16, 2025January 23, 2025January 30, 2025 For more information, please contact Brenda: 240-305-0978 Information Source: eventbrite
