Author Talk: Ruthie Ackerman, The Mother Code | Sarah Gormley Gallery, North High Street, Columbus, OH, USA
May 29, 2025 (UTC-5)
Columbus
Join us for a conversation between award-winning journalist and author of The Mother Code, Ruthie Ackerman, and New York Times best-selling author, Christie Tate. Each Ticket Includes:Attendance to conversation between Ruthie Ackerman and Christie TateOpen Q&AHardcover, signed copy of The Mother CodeDrinks and light bitesAbout The Mother Code: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Myths That Shape UsIn this propulsive memoir, an award-winning journalist blends history, science, and cultural criticism, to uncover whether motherhood outside of society’s rigid rules and expectations is possible—and whether she fits the mold for what a mother should be. The Mother Code subverts our ideas about parenting, womanhood, nature, and nurture. Ruthie Ackerman is that rare writer whose fierce intelligence is matched by her warmth and honesty. Her book brings us new ways of thinking about how to be a mother, and a person. - Claire Dederer, Author of the national bestsellers Monsters: A Fan’s Dilemma and Poser: My Life In Twenty-Three Yoga Poses“Some of us just know: we want a child, or we don't. But for most of us, it's not so clear-cut: generations of genetics tangled with deeply individual bodies, dreams, and fears. Ackerman gives us the complexity of motherhood in all its devastating and devastatingly beautiful truth, layering her own harrowing story with laser-focused research and a chorus of mothers from literature and pop culture, all saying: you are not alone. You never have been. – Megan Stielstra, the author of The Wrong Way to Save Your LifeAbout Ruthie AckermanRuthie began her writing career with a promise: to shine a light on the people, places, and ideas that are too often ignored. After a stint at the New York Times and a few years reporting on the economy for Forbes, she was awarded journalism fellowships to war-torn Liberia and Lebanon to showcase young people in both countries who were rebuilding their lives out of the ashes of destruction—and finding the resilience to push forward. In the decade since, she has profiled game-changing entrepreneurs and social activists and written extensively about the professional and financial advancement of women. Ruthie wrote a piece for the New York Times Modern Love column about her own failed egg freezing, “Don’t Put All Your (Frozen) Eggs in One Basket,” which became the launching point for her upcoming memoir and shifted her focus from traditional reporting to personal stories. She started Ignite Writers Collective in 2019 to work with other writers at all stages of their careers, sharing her insights from years as an editor and writer. Her clients have gotten book deals, published essays, and found the bravery to share their stories with the world. Ruthie’s writing has been published in Vogue, Glamour, O Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Salon, Slate, Newsweek, and more. Most recently, she was the Deputy Editor at ForbesWomen. She has a Master's in Journalism from NYU and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their daughter. About Christie TateChristie is the author of the New York Times bestseller Group, which was a Reese’s Book Club selection and has been translated into 19 languages. She is also the author of B.F.F.-- A Memoir of Friendship Lost & Found. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and elsewhere. Her essays have been nominated for Puschcart Prizes, and Kiese Laymon selected her essay, Promised Lands, as the winner of the New Ohio Review’s 2019 nonfiction contest. She writes about addiction, eating disorders, friendship, alienation, recovery, and her Grandma’s farm in Forreston, Texas. She grew up in Dallas and now lives in Chicago with her family. She has finally stopped telling people that she graduated first in her law school class. Please don’t hate her because she has no pets.

Orange Soda - 2000s HipHop / R&B Dance Party Memorial Day Weekend Kickoff!! | The Forum
May 23, 2025 (UTC-4)
Columbus
KICK OFF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WITH THE BIGGEST AND BEST 2000s PARTY!
ORANGE SODA
THIS EVENT IS 21+
WHAT IS ORANGE SODA?
The idea behind Orange Soda is to capture the feeling of the 2000’s decade and highlight the music and experiences that shaped us into who we are. Parties in high school and college were full of life lessons: the people danced, there was a care-free attitude where the only priority was having fun, and the music was so good that you couldn’t help but sing and rap along.
Orange Soda is, for at least one night, a blast to the past and a pioneering party experience designed to pay attention to an era that we all loved, but don’t appreciate enough. The people who come to OS are the ones who want to drink, dance, and throw caution to the wind. If you aint about that life, you'd best just stay home or else you're going to find yourself amongst a vibe that you just don't understand.
Sounds by
DJ BERN
and special guest DJs!
This event is 21+
Established December 2017, Orange Soda captures the Neo- Nostalgia, so you can’t help but “crank that” when Souljaboy tells you to, and you have to join in screaming “Dont Do it! Reconsider!” during the Int’l Player’s Anthem. You come to Orange Soda prepared to sweat, so you’re not worried about your fit. You'll even find yourself joining in on the traditional Orange Soda Slide when Usher's "U Don't Have To Call" comes on.
Notice Of Filming/Photography
By attending Orange Soda, you consent to interview(s), photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on websites, social media, or any other purpose by Orange Soda and its affiliates and representatives. Images, photos and/or videos may be used to promote similar events in the future and highlight the event. You release Orange Soda, its organizers and employees, and each and all persons involved from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitizing, or publication and use of interviews, photographs, computer images, video and/or or sound recordings.
By attending the event, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any use, exhibition, streaming, web casting, televising, or other publication of these materials, regardless of the purpose or sponsoring of such use, exhibiting, broadcasting, web casting, or other publication irrespective of whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged. You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken at Orange Soda or the person or entity designated to do so by Orange Soda.
You have been fully informed of your consent, waiver of liability, and release before attending the event.

We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, log-in to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you wish to meet again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime.
Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Don't fret about figuring out if the person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you.
