The Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, is a vibrant and festive occasion celebrated by Chinese people around the world. Each year is associated with a corresponding Chinese zodiac animal, and in 2025 we say goodbye to the Year of the Dragon and usher in the charming Year of the Snake. The Hampshire Chinese Association, Shaolin Temple UK, Southampton City Council and the local community have come together to celebrate this auspicious occasion with a series of colourful events, cultural performances and traditional customs. Every year, hundreds of people gather in Southampton's Guildhall Square to enjoy a colorful parade, free traditional Chinese lion dances, family-friendly activities and to exchange new year greetings. Clever, witty and interesting . I would have sat there all day. She needs a bigger venue and a bar in the room so next time I can listen for a couple of hours. I would take my daughter and my fairly sensitive mother and they would both love it. Matt Richardson comes to The Attic, Southampton - Thursday 13th FebruaryHaving started stand-up in 2009 at 18 years old, Matt became one of the youngest comedians on the circuit and soon made it through to the finals of two national stand-up competitions – the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny and the Chortle Student Comedy Award – as well as coming runner up in the Reading Comedy Festival New Act of the Year and winning the Newbury and Bath Comedy Festival new act competitions – all while still in his teens.
