We're thrilled to have Daniel Sellers joining us at 7pm on the 19th of February 2025 to launch his new book, The Lollipop Man! The Lollipop Man: When a young girl is snatched from a West Yorkshire town there are eerie similarities with a cold case from many years earlier. It can't be the same killer, can it? Yorkshire, 1994. Eighteen-year-old Adrian Brown spends his days working at the local newspaper, and his evenings in his local pub. But under this ordinary surface lies a haunting story. Aged ten, Adrian was kidnapped by a shadowy figure known as The Lollipop Man, who had abducted three children before. Adrian was the only one to escape. The Lollipop Man might well have returned when another missing child whips up a media frenzy. Journalist Sheila Hargreaves, troubled with memories of her own involvement in the reporting of the previous abductions, is determined to dig deeper, atone for what she did nearly a decade ago and bring the Lollipop Man to justice. If you love an excellent thriller and are as excited as we are for a Yorkshire-based crime novel then grab a ticket and join us to hear what Daniel has to say! We're delighted to announce that Kat Dunn and Jennifer Saint will be joining us on the 20th of February at 7pm to talk about Kat's new book, Hungerstone! You may recognise Kat as the incredibly talented author of the YA dark fantasy Bitterthorn, which was shortlisted for the Nero Children's Award in 2023. Her new book, Hungerstone is a reclaiming of the lesbian vampire trope and a beautifully atmospheric, feminist re-telling of the tale which inspired Dracula, Carmilla. Set in the 19th century in the violent wilderness of the Peak District, against a backdrop of the uncontrolled appetite of the industrial revolution, this is a story of appetite and desire. This event will be chaired by the wonderful Jennifer Saint, author of several bestselling greek mythology retellings, most recently Hera, which casts fresh light on the indomitable Greek queen of gods. Since last season I have had a baby (!) and am techinically on paternity leave but the one exception is my other baby which is this baby of a night at our new home ARK Cliftonville with Special Guest Rob Auton As well as some chat and performance from me and Rob, there will be an open mic where you are welcome to come and perform a poem or song (either your own or Something Borrowed (!) from someone else).
