Join us on March 2, 2024, at the Flow Chart Space in Hudson, NY for the launch of the “Jill Magi and Stephen Motika—“if recopying is to author” Exhibition.” This event celebrates the opening of this exciting exhibition by artist/poet Jill Magi and features a reading and talk with Stephen Motika, the legendary poet/publisher of Nightboat Books. The exhibition showcases a collection of new paintings, fabric works, and books by Jill Magi, inspired by her poetry collection, SPEECH. Magi's artistic method involves copying and recopying, juxtaposing, and enjambing to create a unique visual and poetic experience. Her works challenge traditional boundaries and invite viewers to engage with materials, words, and humans in a dynamic and interactive way. In addition to the exhibition, Jill Magi will be present in the space on select Saturdays, copying and recopying the texts of other renowned poets, including John Ashbery. This ongoing project will result in a new fabric work that will evolve over the course of late winter into spring, inviting disruption and exploration. Jill Magi is a poet and artist based in southern Vermont, known for her solo exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates and the United States. She is the author of six full-length books of poetry and has held residencies with prestigious organizations such as the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the Brooklyn Textile Arts Center. Stephen Motika, the director and publisher of Nightboat Books, is also an accomplished poet and editor. His work has been published in various literary publications, and he has held residencies at renowned institutions such as the Lannan Foundation and the Millay Colony for the Arts. The “Jill Magi and Stephen Motika—“if recopying is to author” Exhibition Launch” is presented by The Flow Chart Foundation, a nonprofit organization that explores poetry and its interrelationships with other art forms. Through their programs and collaborations, The Flow Chart Foundation aims to challenge assumptions and offer new ways to discover and enjoy poetry. Don't miss this unique opportunity to engage with the works of Jill Magi and Stephen Motika. Admission is free, and the event promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking experience. Mark your calendar and join us for a day of poetry, art, and conversation.
