The Westside Community Center, founded in 1942 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is a significant cultural and artistic hub for the Westside community. Established by Rev. John Ashby, Lorenzo W. Harris Sr., Leonard J. Martin, and William Griffin, this organization aims to promote the overall well-being of the predominantly African-American community in Asbury Park's Westside. Housed in the former residence of Dr. William J. Parks, a renowned African-American doctor, the center plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of youth and families in the area. Taking over the ownership in 2022, the Wcc Historic Restoration Association Inc. strives to empower the community through education, resources, health and wellness initiatives, as well as leadership and career training. In line with this mission, the inaugural 4 Westside Culture & Art Festival will take place on Friday, September 29th, 2023, at Westside Park, located at 118 Dewitt Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ, USA. The festival commences with an evening of captivating live musical performances, accompanied by a diverse selection of genres curated by Host MC Tiffany Durant of Urban Xpressions. The event promises to unite esteemed guests, dignitaries, Asbury Park residents, and individuals from far and wide to celebrate the vibrant culture and revitalization of the Westside community.
