Colour Woodcut Printing Masterclass with Merlyn Chesterman | Studio KIND. at The Corn Store
Jul 13, 2025 (UTC+0)
Barnstaple
Learn to cut and print a colour woodblock, registering two blocks in relation to each other for exciting results. Bring ideas or come with an open mind. All materials provided. Some previous experience with relief printing helpful but not essential. Merlyn Chesterman RE is a local printmaker and on the Council of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, exhibiting around the UK and internationally, as well as a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Merlyn was brought up in Hong Kong, returning to England to study Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art, under Adrian Heath in the 1960s. She then lived, travelled and exhibited in Asia for many years, spending time in Bhutan, Kashmir, China and Thailand, followed by some years in Minnesota, USA. Merlyn’s work is mostly about atmosphere – seeing and feeling what is around her. Driven by a sense of excitement, she works fundamentally at an abstract level with a secondary, literal surface. Themes include beauty, danger, remoteness, weather and mystery. Merlyn works with different woods, choosing boards for their particular character, and prints large prints on Okawara, Rives BFK and Somerset Satin. She uses oil-based, water-washable ink, often grading colour on the roller. By booking an event at Studio KIND., you agree to our cancellation policy, which states that no refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than two weeks before the event date. Refunds requested earlier will be processed minus Eventbrite booking fees. Studio KIND. reserves the right to modify or cancel events as necessary, in which case full refunds will be provided or otherwise a postponement to a later date workshop. Our aim is to promote inclusivity in the equestrian world and show that there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So if you want a variety show that celebrates the diverse nature of the beast we all love, join us for an evening of family entertainment. There’s even a bar for Dad to enjoy! Dates and Schedule The show will take place on Saturday 5th July 6:30pm to 8:30pm, at The Grange Equestrian in Okehampton, Devon. Doors will open at 5:30 pm for the hobby horse jump course so the kids (and parents) can let off some steam and giving you time to enjoy some delicious food and drink before the show starts. And for those who want to keep the fun going, the party will continue until dark. VIPs For those looking to elevate their experience, we have VIP options available. VIP guests will enjoy complimentary drinks and nibbles in their own exclusive area, and the opportunity to mingle and take photos with our demonstration team. Meet & Greet To add to the excitement, there will be a meet and greet after the final parade, allowing you to have your picture taken with your favourite horse (we know it will be Dexter, as he always steals the show). Ticket Information The regular ticket prices will be £25 for adults, £20 for carers, £15 for kids and those with disabilities. VIP tickets are £50. Carers / disabled customers please bring proof of being a registered carer / proof of disability to show at the door. Don't miss out on this fantastic event! This workshop also makes a wonderful present - buy someone a place, or book for you and a friend!
The course will take place in our lovely shop in the small town of Bovey Tracey on the edge of beautiful Dartmoor.
The course is suitable for all levels of competency and there is no sewing required. In this small group class, Rachael will guide you through each of the steps at a gentle pace, ensuring you have all the time and support needed to create a beautiful lampshade. The course will last for approximately 2 1/2 - 3 hours and will include some light refreshments. There are 2 steps to access the building and a long flight of stairs (23 steps) to access the toilet facilities.
Join us for a class where Rachael will teach you how to make your own beautiful drum lampshade. During the session, you will learn how to make a 20cm or 30cm diameter shade.
Rachael will expertly guide you through the necessary steps and you will finish with a real sense of achievement as well as a striking lampshade! All materials are provided, EXCEPT fabric - we can sell you a piece from our fabric range for £5 or you are welcome to bring your own so you can create your perfect lampshade!.
Extra components will also be available to purchase should you be bitten by the lampshade bug and want to continue making at home!
All workshop attendees will also receive 10% off any purchases made in the shop on the date of your class (excluding in our instore bookshop, First Draft Books).
We release new dates for workshops quite frequently, please sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear of upcoming workshops.
