Cosa fare a San Valentino a Firenze? Dipingere Insieme- serata per coppie | Geko art studio
Feb 14, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Florence
For ENGLISH VERSION please scroll down! Costo: € 95 a coppia
(aperitivo e materiali compresi) Portando un’altra coppia con voi otterrete uno sconto sul prezzo finale! (€ 75 anziché € 95) ***
Valentine's Day for many is synonymous of romantic dinners, chocolates and flowers, but perhaps this year you will decide to spend it doing something truly original! For February 14th, 2025, Geko Art Studio offers those who love art and creativity an alternative and fun evening that can be enjoyed as a couple with your partner.Imagine spending an evening with your partner sipping your favorite wine while painting a romantic scene on canvas to make a painting to take home with you after the date. The experience that we propose is to paint a canvas that tells about the couple themselves. Just as in a relationship, made together of two independent people who share together a path, so will be the canvas, it will be composed of two divided parts, but at the end of the evening both canvas will be painted by a single composition: two distinct sections but completely interpenetrating each other. Thanks to the creative process you will have an exchange of views, communicating with your partner's space in order to make everyone meet their own painting. At this experience you will not only bring home a fantastic memory, but you should benefit from it an extraordinary therapeutic power of knowledge of each other as a couple. The process of artistic creation allows you to open your gaze towards your partner, interacting without using verbal language but learning to respect the times and methods of our partner. A painter from our staff will be present and guide you throughout the experience. The event will take place on Friday February 14th 2025 and will include an Aperitivo based on cold cuts and cheeses (or a vegetarian alternative) with two glasses of wine. Cost: € 95 per couple
(Aperitivo and materials included) By bringing another couple with you,
you will get a discount on the final price! (€ 75 instead of € 95 for both couples)

Art Crit at Flo - a development and support group for artists, by artists | Florence Arts Centre
Feb 20, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Florence
Our Art Crit group is a supportive and friendly group who critique one another's work - challenging one another to develop and supporting one another to do so. If you'd like to come along, please bring a piece of your work to share OR an image of another artist's work which you'd like to talk about. We'll welcome you with hot drinks and biscuits to get the discussion flowing :-) Then we'll set off with a framework similar to this, and adapt as we go: The idea is to present work blind, to get a new perspective from a viewers’ point of view and to find out how an audience engages with the piece. 1.DESCRIBE – What is it? What are you seeing? 2. ANALYSE- How can you see those things? Is it about the colour, shapes, texture, scale etc? 3. INTERPRET- Is there an obvious meaning? What can it mean? Does this come across effectively? 4. JUDGEMENT- Is it working? If not, why? How can it be resolved? Do parts work? (This helps to build up critical thinking around the work) 5. MOVING FORWARD – How could the work be developed? What next? Are there any known artists working in the same way? Are there any related areas of research which could help push the work in new directions?

Movie Screening of Award-winning Film: Burning in the Sun | Seven Points Pocket Park
May 6, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Florence
This event is a fundraiser for
Don't Sleep on Alabama
, a podcast miniseries currently being developed by creative partners Lori Feldman & Claire Weingarten. They are excited to share Claire's award-winning documentary film
Burning in the Sun
with the people of the Shoals!
You are invited to join us for a Tuesday evening viewing of the movie outside in Pocket Park (in Seven Points, right next to Southern Trash), on May 6th. Sunset that evening is scheduled to be around 7:45, when we will start the movie.
We will be setup to let people in around 7:15, and seats will be first come, first served. Refreshments will be available for purchase (but feel free to bring your own).
This movie screening event is a fundraiser to raise money for production on Lori & Claire's current project (see below for more info on that!) so we are selling tickets for $10 for adults, $7.50 for kids, and children under 12 are welcome to come for free. You can purchase tickets ahead of time here on Eventbrite, or we will also be accepting cash and Venmo at the event.
Stick around after the movie for a Q&A with Claire, the film's producer. She and her crew spent months filming on location in Mali, and the adventures she had in making this film are as compelling as the film itself!
+++++About the film:
Burning in the Sun
follows the story of Daniel, an electric character on a mission to build a solar panel business to power a West African village in Mali. The film chronicles his roller-coaster of a journey and captures the transformative ways the lives of the villagers and everyone touched by the project are changed making this a vital and inspirational story for us all.
The film was a
New York Post "Critics Pick!"
and played at film festivals on four continents--
Burning in the Sun
won dozens of prizes including the
Berlin Cinema for Peace Award
and aired on
PBS
.
+++++About Lori and Claire's current project,
Don't Sleep on Alabama:
Lori and Claire are currently developing a podcast miniseries that will blow up Blue Staters' assumptions about Alabama and share stories about our beloved Shoals home.
So many misconceptions about the people of Alabama tend to be shaped by the loudest voices on the national stage.
Don't Sleep on Alabama
is zooming into the NW corner of the state, and sharing the stories of amazing folks in the Shoals region, who are finding ways of pushing the needle towards positive change, within the cultural context of the reddest of Red States.
Through stories both surprising and inspiring, Lori and Claire are posing questions and sharing insights that they hope will help those around the country, who are working for a better future for the American people, within the cultural shifts happening in this moment of drastic change in our country.
If you would like to support their efforts to boost the signal on local stories of local people doing great work, while simultaneously broadening how Alabama is perceived on the national stage, please consider donating beyond the $10 ticket price! Any amount is so very much appreciated.
