ONE THOUSAND VINES: An Evening with Pascaline Lepeltier and Meri Lugo | Bold Fork Books

May 12, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Cultural Experiences
Join Bold Fork Books, Author and Master Sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier, and Domestique's Managing Partner Meri Lugo for an evening focused on Pascaline's book, ONE THOUSAND VINES. All tickets will include sips of wine provided by Domestique. ABOUT THE BOOK In One Thousand Vines internationally celebrated sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier answers all the important questions about wine. With three main parts - Reading Vines, Reading Landscapes and Reading Wines - the book challenges preconceived ideas about the vine and its wine. It explains where we are now, how we got here, and shows us a way forward - in how grapes will be grown, made into wine, sold and enjoyed. One Thousand Vines isn't an encyclopedia or atlas but it answers all the important questions about wine and offers the reader keys to understand the links between the bottle and the producers, terroirs and vineyards which give birth to it. With a refreshingly unique approach, star sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier offers those curious about wine not only the answers but also the tools to understand it by oneself. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pascaline Lepeltier is probably the most decorated female sommelier on the planet. She is one of only 25 or so women to have been certified a Master Sommelier, and was the first woman to be named Meilleur Sommelier de France and also Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF). Pascaline has written for various prominent wine guides and books in France, and is a contributor to The Oxford Companion to Wine. Having grown up in the Loire Valley, she left an academic career in philosophy to enter the world of wine at a young age. After winning numerous awards and accolades in France, she moved to New York in 2009 to open the US outpost of the famed Michelin-star restaurant Rouge Tomate, hailed by Eric Asimov in the New York Times as 'world-class, with exquisite taste'. She has since joined the wine-focused restaurant Chambers. ABOUT THE MODERATOR Meri Lugo is Managing Partner at Domestique. She joined the team in 2020, after spending a decade working both front and back of house roles at some of DC’s most beloved restaurants. ABOUT DOMESTIQUE DOMESTIQUE is focused exclusively on natural wines. For us, that means wines made from organic or biodynamic grapes, fermented with ambient yeasts, and with very minimal use of sulfur (if any). The wines we love are clean, terroir-driven, and transparent. We also have a careful selection of beers, ciders, sakes, and spirits that are made with the same principles whenever possible. We're here in service of our producers. Information Source: Bold Fork Books | eventbrite

Film
Bol Coop invites you to the screening of Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo, a powerful documentary exploring the Salvadorean diaspora in D.C. After the projection, we will discuss the film with the director Quique Aviles and members of the Yellow House Collective. The film follows Quique on his journey to find answers and healing from the traumatic events that led to his migration north, leading him to write "Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo," a powerful, heart-wrenching poem that serves to reclaim his dead and the dignity of a nation torn apart by war and mass displacement.  Threaded within Quique's journey are interviews, music videos, performances, and archival footage of Salvadoran-Wachintonian artists that tell an intimate story of a community resolving trauma and finding identity, belonging, and joy after fleeing the Salvadoran civil war and settling in Washington, D.C. They uplift the power of art to heal in a world fraught with legacies of injustice. We want our events to remain accessible. Please consider donating. Please also only register if you plan to attend.
