Sophisticated Simplicity
Our events offer a fresh alternative to speed dating and matchmaking. We don't find anything romantic about whistles, name-tags or over-the-top party trimmings typically found at singles events so we have done away with them. Creating an atmosphere that is at once casual and comfortable. It's what we call cheeky-chic!
Meet a partner to attend concerts, music festivals, bar crawls or fitness classes. Someone who shares your passions and interests - from sports to yoga - all in a setting just your speed.
-
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile MyCheekyDate ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, login to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you fancy meeting again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. It's where Cheeky meets convenience! You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime. Paper scorecards are just so 2010!
The night has arrived! Go to the venue at the published start time for the event. There is no official start time to the speed dating portion of the evening - we like to wait for all daters to arrive, to have a moment to settle in with a refreshment and mingle should they wish.
Our personable hosts will assist you with your MyCheekyDate 'Smart-Card’ Scorecard. Flirty and fun, your mobile scorecard is just the beginning. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Offering uncompromising value with unparalleled service. Lovely venues and our lovely Hosts to assist you with anything or anyone.

Queens Poetry symposium: A Celebration of Asian-American Poetry and Poetics | Queens Botanical Garden
Jun 28, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
New York
The symposium features panelists of Asian-American poets who have written about their Asian/ mixed race identity in relation to theater and performance, worked with archives of declassified correspondences and photographs of war as a visual form, and in thinking about food as identity (the restaurant being one of the industries that did not exclude Asian-Americans). In confronting the legacy and continual racism of the American hegemony, the Asian American poets who have come of age under the shadow of war and the trauma of migration have contributed to the possibilities of American poetics. They have branched into prose poetry or even essays, L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E poetry and poetry as a visual form, the use of archival materials, including film and translation/ multilingualism/ translingualism in considering what it means to be of Asian-American. Hosted by Tiffany Troy. The featured panelists are Gauri Awasthi, Rhoni Blankenhorn, Nidhi Gandhi, Katarina La Poll, Kyle Liang, Blake Z. Rong, Marie La Viña, Diane Mehta, R.A. Villanueva, and Molly Zhu. This project is a part of the What Can We Do? Typographics Conference (in-person)
ticket holders can have a 10% discount on this workshop. Write to type@cooper.edu for the promo-code to take advantage of this offer before you pay.
In this two-day class, you will learn the basics of designing and generating a variable font with the font-design software Glyphs (Mac only). Go beyond choosing the same typefaces from the type menu to creating your own!
On the first day, we will learn the basics of drawing a font, generate the font, and use it in an Adobe app or a web browser. In the afternoon, we will add additional letters to the font, learning how to space them, add diacritics and punctuation.
On the second day, we will add more letters, design a bold version of the same typeface, create a variable font—and make it animate in a web browser.
At the end of the class, you will probably not have a finished font, but a respectable start and a deep understanding about how fonts are made. And maybe you’ll become a type design addict. You have been warned.
Level and prerequisites:
beginner, no prior knowledge necessary. Bring your MacBook.
About the Instructors:
Matteo Bologna
is the principal of Mucca Design, where he also serves as Creative Director. Under his direction, the Mucca Design team has solved numerous design challenges and created uniquely successful work for a wide variety of global companies like Sephora, Whole Foods, Victoria’s Secret, WeWork, Adobe Systems, Bacardi and Danone. With his team he designed the identities for a variety of now classic New York City culinary destinations like Balthazar’s and Frenchette. Matteo is a past chairman of the Type Directors Club and former board member of AIGA/NY. He frequently lectures about branding and typography around the world.
A trained photographer,
Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer
holds both a philosophy and a Dutch studies degree. He creates typefaces, works as a digital punchcutter for other type designers, and gives type design workshops on a regular basis. Since he has joined the Glyphs team in 2012, he has been writing articles, tutorials, and Python scripts, as well as the blog and the handbook. He lives and works in Vienna, where he also runs his type studio Schriftlabor.

In this workshop, Ilya will guide you through the history and contemporary use of Cyrillic type, exploring different Cyrillic-based languages and their unique typographic needs. In the first part, you’ll gain a solid understanding of Cyrillic’s historical background and design principles. In the second part, you’ll apply this knowledge by extending an existing Latin font with your first Cyrillic letterforms.
The workshop is designed to be mostly self-paced and adapted to your skill level. You’ll work digitally on your laptop using your preferred software, with guidance and feedback throughout the process. By the end of the three days, you will have completed your first Cyrillic typeface style.
Alongside hands-on work, the workshop includes a few lectures—mainly on the history of Cyrillic—as well as small exercises to help you grasp the nuances of Cyrillic letterforms.
Learning Goals
Understand the historical background of Cyrillic.
Develop high-quality Cyrillic letterforms for an existing Latin font.
Expand your typographic knowledge and skills.
