From May 16, 2025, Room 1 of the Pinacoteca di Brera will be transformed to host “Beauty and the Ideal,” an unmissable exhibition dedicated to Antonio Canova. Tariq Atui from Lebanon is a sound artist and composer. His works revolve around performance and sound creation, and he also conceives some complex and novel instruments. As he puts it, "music and new technologies are powerful means to express and emphasize identity." This exhibition is the artist's first solo exhibition in Italy. Through installations, complex acoustic environments and collaborative performances, Atui experiments around the concept of listening. "In Milan, my proposal is a tribute to improvisation," the artist explained.

Yanagi Yukinori is one of the representatives of Japanese neo-pop art in the 1980s and 1990s. He explores complex issues such as sovereignty, globalization and borders through large-scale, site-specific installations. In the upcoming first large-scale retrospective in Europe, the focus is on his award-winning work "World Flag Ant Farm Project" at the 1993 Venice Biennale. This national flag made of sand is connected by plastic pipes. The ants moving randomly in the pipes invade the flags, and unpredictable cracks appear in the flag pattern. In addition, there are recent works by the artist, as well as large-scale installation works that are reinterpreted as a response to the post-industrial space of the Pirelli Bicocca Hangar Art Center.

“Typologien” is an extensive investigation dedicated to German photography of the twentieth century. The project, hosted in the Podium, the central space of the Milanese venue, is curated by Susanne Pfeffer, art historian and director of the MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST in Frankfurt. The project applies the principle of “typology”, born in the 17th and 18th centuries in botany to classify and study plants, developed by photography from the beginning of the twentieth century and established in German photography during the twentieth century. Paradoxically, the proposed formal principle allows us to establish unexpected analogies between German artists of different generations and at the same time reveal individual approaches to photography.

Francesco Candeloro (Venezia, 1974) has been creating since the early 2000s a continuous play of concealment and revelation that fully exploits the potential of chromatic evanescence made to vibrate by light. His works accommodate the changing luminosity by projecting the passage of time on the interior walls of the rooms. On the upper floor of the gallery are exhibited the works Cime nel tempo (2025), conceived as a single installation that unfolds both on the wall and in the center of the room, thanks to a structure composed of metal uprights that suspends the works in space. In this way, the visitor is invited to immerse himself and cross the plexiglas profiles both physically and mentally - thanks to the transparency of the material and its superimposition - experiencing the variation of vision where what is given to see is another place crossed by the rhythm of existence in the instant of the encounter-collision with the work.
