Seriographers Queer: freedom for sensibilities | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

The Queer Serigrafistas collective first came together in 2007 in Buenos Aires. Its name combines the technique of screen printing with the term queer, which in English designates gender identities and sexual orientations that break with traditional norms associated with masculine, feminine and heterosexuality. Since then, the group has redefined the term, using the Latin adaptation cuir and the variation cuis, a reference to the small rodent found in the Argentine pampas, which has become a symbol for the artists.
With a practice that emerges from public spaces, the Queer Serigrafistas form a transversal network of artists and activists who use screen printing as a central tool to create urgent and sensitive messages on political issues, ranging from social struggles to gender issues. Their work also includes performances, collaborative games, workshops held at demonstrations and agroecology practices. Each work is the result of a process of collective creation, thus challenging traditional notions of individual authorship.
