Will revitalization plans be kick-started now that a site for the STP has been found.The Panel discussion will explore where the town stands Mapping the Future of Hampton Bays: Infrastructure and Opportunity Earlier this year, Southampton Town officials proposed purchasing 30.8 acres of woodlands off Old Riverhead Road, immediately adjacent to the town’s facilities on Jackson Avenue with CPF monies, to be the home of a long-awaited sewage treatment plant to serve the Hampton Bays business district. A sewer system could facilitate the expansion of downtown Hampton Bays, including a new area of commercial and residential buildings and streets between Main Street and Good Ground Park that a developer has pitched as the key to revitalizing the downtown. Will revitalization plans be kick-started now that a site for the STP has been found. Will the town be able to make the plan more palatable to residents, environmentalists, and civic groups who have questioned the plan? We will be tagging and releasing monarch butterflies, seed collecting, and SEAd bomb making for coastal habitat restoration. We are tagging the butterflies as part of Monarch Watch's citizen science data collection and restoration efforts. Monarch Watch Vision Statement: In recognition of the rapid loss of habitats and resources needed by monarch butterflies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, it is clear that the preservation of the monarch migration will require stewardship by the governments and private citizens of all three countries. We all must work together to create, conserve, and protect monarch habitats. Sustaining monarch habitats will have the effect of protecting vital pollinators and other wildlife. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County strives to host inclusive, accessible events that respectfully enables all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to interact and engage fully. Southampton Town’s largest hamlet is in a state of flux. There are numerous passionate residents offering input, though the conversations are splinteredand many voices are competing. A major proposal by the Shinnecock Nation for a gas station off SunriseHighway — and, in the longer term, development on the bluff at Westwoods — has sparked concern among Hampton Bays residents. But there are other pressures: a developer has amassed parcels andhas a vision for redevelopment, anda battery energy storage system proposal has neighbors alarmed. This Express Session event will bring together many of the players in one room to search for common ground and try to identify successful strategies for moving forward onthe issues affecting Hampton Bays.
