Maines spearheaded the first meeting on February 1st at the Durant Hotel in Flint, Michigan, resulting in the establishment of a permanent organization after receiving an overwhelming 1000 responses. The group's dedication led to recognition in the Congressional record on February 6th, followed by the formation of chapters across several states. The organization's official charter by Congress in June 1960 solidified its commitment to supporting active-duty service personnel, promoting patriotism, assisting Veterans organizations, and participating in homeland volunteer efforts. In recent times, the organization has experienced renewed growth, with mothers proudly displaying flags as a symbol of their children's service during times of war.
