How the left lost online politics - and what to do about it | Chantry Hall

Jul 15, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Conferences
Digital platforms have rewired the form, flow and function of political ideas mostly to the benefit of anti-equality politics. Learn about how and why this happened and discuss ways in which egalitarian politics can flourish back into online spaces. This session continues the conversation we started at our festival on 10 May - but whether you were able to attend that workshop or not, all are welcome to join the discussion now. This follow-up session will give us the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the world of the online far right, looking at examples, analysing particular narrative strategies which are pulling people in, and thinking about how to create effective counter-narratives. We are delighted to be joined by Alan Finlayson, Professor of Political and Social Theory at UEA, who has been writing about  reactionary digital politics for ten years. Quartetto Noûs | The Assembly House

Norwich
Concerts
Classical
Assembly House Classical presents Quartetto Noûs Thursday 17th July at 1:00 pm Programme Puccini - Crisantemi Haydn - String Quartet in E flat major Op.33 no.2 "the Joke” Dvorak - String Quartet in E flat major op.51 Quartetto Noûs Sofia Manvati– violin, Alberto Franchin – violin Sara Dambruoso – viola Riccardo Baldizzi – cello Noûs (nùs) is a Greek word whose meaning is ‘mind’, and thence ‘rationality’, but also ‘inspiration’ and ‘creativity’. Formed in 2011, the Quartetto Noûs has gone on to established itself as one of the most interesting chamber music ensembles of its generation. The quartet studied at the Accademia Walter Stauffer in Cremona with the Quartetto di Cremona, at the Basel Musik Akademie with Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet), at the Escuela Superior de Música ‘Reina Sofia’ in Madrid and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet) and at the Lübeck Musikhochschule with Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet). In 2014 Quartetto Noûs was selected to take part in the project ‘Le Dimore del Quartetto’. In the same year, they were also awarded a scholarship offered by the Foundatión Albeniz of Madrid. The Piero Farulli Prize, given to the best emerging chamber music group was awarded to the quartet in 2015. The versatility and the interpretative originality of the ensemble appears in the quartet’s repertoire and the attention to the new compositional languages drives the Quartet to experiment with innovative concert formats like performing by heart in complete darkness. The Noûs has worked with several contemporary composers and taken part in many cross-cutting projects with theatre and dance companies. They have collaborated with renowned artists like Tommaso Lonquich, Andrea Lucchesini, Bruno Canino, Boris Petrushansky to name but a few. In Italy the Quartetto Noûs has performed in prestigious concert seasons in Milan, Turin, Florence, Bologna Bergamo,Venice, Trieste, Lucca, Naples, Rome, Cremona and have appeared at Festivals such as the Ravenna Festival and Settimane Musicali in Stresa. Further afield the quartet regularly performs in Scotland, England, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Canada, United States, South Korea and China. Their performances have been broadcasted by several radio stations such as RAI Radio 3, Venice Classic Radio, Radio Clásica and RSI. In 2013 and 2017 they were Quartet in residence at Festival Ticino Musica in Lugano. The Quartetto Noûs has recorded with music labels such as Brilliant Classics, Tactus, DaVinci Edition and Warner Classics. From 2021 to 2024 the Quartet has recorded the “complete” Shostakovich’ string quartets for Brilliant Classics. In the 2024/25 season the Quartet performs in Canada, in Cartagena (Colombia), Prague and in the UK the quartet tours Scotland, and performs in Norwich and in Oxford. Not just a traded income workshop | Norwich Central Baptist Church

Jul 17, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Cultural Experiences
Who should attend? For leaders and board members responsible for income generation and organisational sustainability. This is not just a trading services workshop This is the second of three income workshops in July. From charity shops and cafes, charities and social enterprises have a strong tradition in generating additional income. Now more than ever we're being told that diverse, unrestricted and additional income is required to be sustainable. But deciding to start trading, what to sell, how to price it and the legal implications all require a weighing up of the trade offs and risks. You'll leave this workshop with the clarity around these choices and more confident in your next steps towards sustainable income generation from trading. Event Details: Date: 17th July 2025 Time: 9.30am - 1pm with tea and coffee Location: Duke Street Baptist Church, Norwich, NR3 3AP Outcomes from attending will include: Increased understanding of what trading is and its implications for your organisation Increased knowledge of trading options Increased understanding of how to start trading Increased understanding of the risks associated with trading A bit more about my values . Inclusive - it’s in the name of the facilitation I use because to include is to listen, to arrive at better results and to believe all the voices have both equal worth and are worth making adjustments to hear. Positive - this means exploring and naming the things people and organisations do well so that you can do more of them. Honesty too about changes that can be made - but never bashing or undermining a brilliant sector. Solution-focussed because that’s what’s needed in a frantically busy sector facing huge challenges and increasing need in communities deserving of answers. Equitable because I believe in treating you as we should be treating those you support - as an equal whose lived experience is of equal worth, needs to be heard and is a vital part of finding solutions. Pragmatic because having walked the walk I live in the real world, not in an ivory tower with ideas that won’t work for you. Enterprising means finding new ideas and solutions that work for you, your values and those of the organisation and its community. I will always be thoughtful about this and not attempt to crowbar solutions from elsewhere and assure they will work for you in your setting. TALK What the Normans did to ….. and for Norwich. | The Forum

Jul 24, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Cultural Experiences
Norwich has always welcomed Strangers to its city but some have been more welcome than others. The Normans disrupted Anglo-Scandinavian life, breaking the 200-year link with Denmark and reconnecting with France and Europe. Dominant new buildings were raised and the layout radically changed but the Normans brought order, recognition and prosperity. This is a repeat of our sell-out February Talk and is part of The Norwich History Festival 2025 . S ee HERE for more details. Adrian O'Dell is the son of a Polish Air Force officer and a nurse from Lancashire and was educated at the City of Norwich School. Not just a social investment workshop | Norwich Central Baptist Church

Jul 24, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Cultural Experiences
Who should attend? For anyone interested in learning more about social investment, especially leaders and board members responsible for income generation and organisational sustainability. This is not just a social investment workshop This is the final of three income workshops in July. Social investment isn't just for large charities or social enterprises. Neither does it require shares or liquid assets. If these terms bamboozle you or you think that social investment is not for your organisation, you may be surprised. There are likely many reasons that East Anglia is a social investment 'cold spot'. From developing new services, recruiting staff or investing in equipment, there are many uses for social investment and sizes and forms in comes in. All options require a degree of due diligence and investment readiness. You'll leave this workshop with increased knowledge about social investment and whether it's right for your organisation to pursue further. Event Details: Date: 24th July 2025 Time: 9.30am - 1pm with tea and coffee Location: Duke Street Baptist Church, Norwich, NR3 3AP Outcomes from attending will include: Increased understanding of what social investment is Improved understanding of what social investment is used for Improved understanding of where to start and your considerations Improved understanding of necessary due diligence and getting investment ready A bit more about my values . Majak Door + The Mink & Wazlo | Voodoo Daddy's

Jul 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Norwich
Concerts
Majak Door, from Melbourne/Naarm Australia, play an expansive sound that is probably best described using words like dreamy, groovy, and both often energetic and occasionally completely laid back. You’ll be able to hear influences from genres including surf rock, indie and new-wave as well as blues and psychedlic. In 2025, the band is continuing to record and plan for album number three, following the release of their second album ‘Fantasy Camp’ in mid July in ’24., which featured singles ‘Borderline’ and ‘Jasmine’. The bands most recent release ‘Everybody’s Listening to the Radio Now’ is a sightly darker sounding track, however still containing the dreamy elements of most previous releases. This session is suitable for athletes aged 5-16 of any tumble ability. This session is open to new and current Brave members. The tumble workshop is for those looking to progress and improve their tumbling! This session has Show & Tell, meaning you are able to come in 10 minutes before the session ends to see what they have been working on during the session. We will open the door at the start time of the event and let you in 10 minutes before the end for you to see what they have been working on. Please note, once you are checked into this session and come into the gym, there is no front of house open during this time for guests/parents to wait. We ask that you bring water in a named bottle, all jewellery is removed or taped up, hair is out of the face in a style that will last the duration of the session, you wear comfortable, sporting clothes along with bare feet or cheer shoes. Brave apparel can be bought from our on site pro shop, but neither the apparel or cheer shoes are compulsory. Our 'Cheer Shoe Recommendation' document can be found on the homepage of our website. We recommend outdoor shoes that can be slipped on and off rather than lace up shoes to avoid congestion. Please ensure ALL items brought to Brave are clearly named, any lost property that is not named is disposed of at the end of each night. Due to the positive and relaxed culture at Brave, we implement a closed session policy. We find this helps participants to feel at ease and confident to step outside their comfort zone to progress. If you require any feedback on your child's progress or have any questions please speak to the person on the front desk. Please use the parking bays provided to the side and back of the premises, depending on the time of day there may also be roadside parking. Please avoid parking in the neighbouring businesses spaces whilst they are open. Information Source: Brave Allstars | eventbrite
