Ann Aguirre: I Think I'm in Love with an Alien | Changing Hands Bookstore Tempe
Jun 25, 2025 (UTC-7)
Phoenix
ABOUT THE BOOK
He's stranded. He's desperate. He's not looking for love. Alien Tamzir Jaarn, a.k.a. Seeker, is paying the price for risking an illicit holiday on an interdicted planet. His ride off-world never showed, and he's been stranded on Earth for nearly a year. His gear is breaking down, food is becoming a problem, and if his camouflage unit fritzes, he'll wind up in a government lab. But he's met some cool humans online, and they've invited him to the biggest space-themed convention around. Why not make memories with them while he figures out how to get home? Space Con or bust! She's nerdy. She's flirty. She's ready for romance. Jennette Hammond is an endearing weirdo, voted most likely to bang an alien in high school. Her house is full of gray man collectibles, adorable tentacle monsters, and yes, in college, she volunteered for a SETI-type program. Not that she's ever had any close encounters of the sexy, alien kind. Heck, she's never even been able to convince anyone to attend Space Con. But that's about to change. Finally, she has online friends who have agreed to go, and it will be a romp to remember--and she'll finally put a face to the name of her longtime crush, Seeker. When alien meets adorkable, they're destined for an out-of-this-world affair... ABOUT THE AUTHOR
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ann Aguirre has been a clown, a clerk, a savior of stray kittens, and a voice actress, not necessarily in that order. She loves video games, Korean dramas, music, dogs and cats, and staring at the sea. Though she writes all kinds of genre fiction, she has a major soft spot for a happily ever after.

We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.
Upon arriving at your chosen event - locate your event host. Your host will assist in setting you up with your scorecard for the evening. A simple and convenient way to keep track of whom you enjoyed meeting and those that you would like to see again. Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. The speed dating portion of the event begins once all daters have arrived, checked in and had a moment or two to relax and unwind.
During the event, Ladies will stay seated and the Gentleman will rotate from table to table every 5 - 6 minutes. Our host will guide the Gentleman to let them know when their time is up and facilitate in seeing them to the next table. The goal is to find someone you would like to speak with further. Don't fret about figuring out if person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. Select those you would like to meet again and give the completed scorecard back to your host at the end of the evening. Our staff will tabulate the results and email you the following day with your results. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you.

For those that prefer the same simplified experience in Matchmaking, we offer our 'Date-Nights' free of contracts and commitments. With packages ranging from $595 to $945. For more information;

Hyaluron Pen Certification
Do you want to be the first in your business, salon or spa to offer this amazing service to your clients? Get ready to train on this course and take your career to the next level!
What Is A Hyaluron Pen?
Simply put, The Pen is the future. It allows anyone with the proper training to provide their clients with a Hyaluronic Acid Treatment. This can be done on lips, deep lines and provides a revitalization treatment for the face. HA forms a super hydrating net over the skin and delivers water to parched skin over time. Hyaluronic Acid is known to have an amazing water-binding capacity, making it ideal for skin hydration and that means the skin is continuously hydrated, plump and healthy.
HA TREATMENTS ARE NOW A REALITY THANKS TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY. USING HYALURONIC ACID BASED PRODUCTS, OUR CUTTING EDGE TECHNIQUE CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SERVICES YOU OFFER TO YOUR CLIENTS.
What is involved in the procedure?
The procedure is quite simple and the HA used is safe as the human body produces the exact same acid, it is pretty impossible that anyone would get any sort of allergic reaction or complication from the HA itself. The more Hyaluronic Acid there is inside the Epidermis layer of the skin, the more water is retained keeping its moisture and making the appearance of the skin more youthful.
Hyaluron Pen … applies HA.
How much can you charge for the procedure?
Based on your state, area of location and techniques you do. Minimum price to charge as a New Technician is $300 and as you become skilled in your craft you can charge up to $500 for 1 ml of Hyaluronic Acid. This is great for 30 minutes of work! This is a great return on investment. You can get back what you have invested in your training quickly!

Lemon Squeezy is a Swedish vocal group consisting of four gentlemen. Since singing their first chords together in 2010, they have had one goal: to sing as fresh and have as much fun as possible. Through the years they’ve become well acquainted with many genres of music. While stemming from a strong Swedish choral tradition, they have truly found their footing in barbershop, jazz, and anything that grooves.
In 2012 they won the Barbershop Collegiate World Championships and finished second in the world at the International Barbershop Harmony Society Contest 2016 and 2023. So far they’ve recorded two albums, traveled all over the world, and created their own style with a strive to push the envelope of what a men’s
a cappella
quartet can be.

PHOENICIANS
Jordan Rakita
- Director
In keeping with the legend, the Phoenicians have once again risen from the ashes.
At this time in 2023 the three-time International Barbershop chorus champions, had dwindled to 10 or 12 persistent active members meeting to sing and socialize without a director or plans for chorus competition or performances.
Knowing that the 80-year old singing group was close to shutting down for good, they placed an ad on the Far Western District website asking for candidates for the director’s position. Of the responses was one from a Barbershopper who was working at Arizona State University toward his doctoral degree in choral directing. He had directed a number of youth and adult choral groups and had sung with the championship Westminster chorus. He suggested that some men in his choral classes might be interested in performing our four-part style of singing.
After several months of conversations with Chapter leaders the candidate, Jordan Rakita, was appointed to the position. The newly reconstituted Phoenicians began meeting twice monthly at the beginning of this year with 25 to 30 students, current and former members of the chorus and several men new to Barbershopping.
After three months of rehearsing and improvement under Jordan's and the Music Team's leadership the chorus competed in the Spring Arizona Division chorus contest, coming in third and qualifying to compete in the five-state FWD contest this fall. In that contest last month the Phoenicians scored fourth among 15 choruses.
But wait, there's more!
When you’re doing things right people take notice and the Barbershop Harmony Society has taken notice and has honored the Phoenician Chorus by inviting us to be the Mic Tester Chorus in July at the annual BHS Convention and Contest in Denver. Mic Testers take the stage at the start of the contest and perform so that judges can make technical adjustments and be sure that the stage and its equipment provide the best visual and vocal setting for the competition. Our chorus will not be scored or compete but it is a distinct honor to be invited to be part of the prestigious contest from among hundreds of choruses around the world.
What a difference a couple years make!
From being in the brink of pulling the plug on life-support to taking the international stage, it's fair to say,
"
WE'RE BACK!"
