Diverse Artists Network's Monthly Artist Gathering | Arnolfini Arts

Jan 31, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bristol
Arts
We’re excited to continue our monthly Artist Gatherings, designed to bring together members of our network to connect, share their projects, and discuss areas where support is needed within the arts community. Join us on 31st January from 12pm-2pm in the Community Workshop Space at Arnolfini for our first gathering of the year. Our gathering will focus on the launch of the Diverse Artists Network Agency, giving our Agency artists the chance to meet each other, while also offering an opportunity for the public to learn more about the services we provide. About The Agency After consulting with 90 artists, we discovered a significant gap in the city’s arts scene: a dedicated advocacy platform for artists. Many expressed frustration with the lack of support they were receiving from booking agents, particularly around contract negotiations and payment issues. This challenge was even more pronounced for artists and creatives from refugee or low-income backgrounds, who often don’t have the resources of a manager or assistant to guide them through these complex processes. In response to this, the Diverse Artists Network (DAN) launched our Agencyand advocacy system in the spring of 2023 to help bridge this gap. Our goal is to provide a much-needed support system, ensuring fair treatment and advocacy for all artists. What’s Happening This Year? We are proud to support 10 incredible Agency artists this year, helping them with bookings and promotions. If you’re a venue, festival, school, or organisation looking to expand your programming, join us on the 31st to meet the artists and you can soon take a look at our artist profiles on our profiles! We also have over 110 talented artists on our roster ready to collaborate. Come along to meet our artists, learn more about how we’re supporting their journeys, and be part of the conversation on how we can collectively strengthen our arts community. We look forward to seeing you there! Information Source: Diverse Artists Network DAN | eventbrite

Baby Wearing Exercise Class (FREE) Bristol, plus social | Filwood Community Centre

Jan 31, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bristol
Sports & Fitness
Exercise
This 40-minute baby-wearing postnatal exercise class to music is brought to you by Karen Ellis, a postnatal recovery expert and ex-midwife, and hosted by the lovely Alice Hall from Bristol Girls Can who did Karen's workouts online for 3.5 years with both of her babies and a pregnancy! We would love for you to join us for this class and have a cuppa with us afterwards. Come and join us to learn how to recover your body after having a baby and exercise safely. There will be an opportunity to ask any specific questions about your pelvic floor recovery, stomach muscle healing, exercising after having a baby, babywearing and becoming more active in the local area afterwards over a cuppa. This is your chance to create a special memory with your baby—joining a baby-wearing exercise class designed just for you and link up with other local mums. Note: Please ensure you’re at least 6 weeks postnatal after a vaginal birth or 10 weeks after a C-section, with your health professional's approval to exercise. What to Expect This 40-minute class is set to upbeat, feel-good music and is all about lifting your mood. Expect the instructor to bring energy and fun as you laugh, smile and feel great being in a room full of mums who understand what you’re going through. We’ll start with a warm-up to ease into things, followed by a track focusing on connecting with your pelvic floor and lower abdominal muscles. From there, we’ll move into the main part of the class—designed to get you moving at a pace that feels right for you. You’ll be encouraged to listen to your body and join in as much or as little as you feel comfortable. I’ll provide different levels of movement throughout the workout, so whether you’re running on minimal sleep and want to keep things gentle, or you’re ready for a more advanced workout, this class will meet you where you’re at. And, of course, breaks are welcome anytime! What You’ll Need Please ensure your baby carrier is secure. You’re welcome to drop Karen a message on social about your specific carrier before the class if you’re unsure—it’s important that both you and your baby are comfortable. Find her on socials @karenpostrehabWear comfortable clothes that you can move easily in and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. If you’d like, you can also bring small hand weights (0.5kg or 1kg), but this is entirely optional. After Class Stick around for a cuppa, chat with other mums, and pick Karen's or Alice's brains! As a former midwife with 12 years of experience helping mums recover their pelvic floor, heal their stomach muscles, and exercise safely after birth, Karen is here to answer your questions. Whether it’s about your pelvic floor, Diastasis Recti (separation of stomach muscles), pelvic girdle pain, back pain, or postnatal exercise, this is a great opportunity to get the advice you need. Alice will also be around at the end as a local mum to two who has managed to get exercise into her life and, as part of Bristol Girls Can, can help you find local ways to get more active. Who Are These Classes For? This class is perfect for mums who are: At least 6 weeks post-vaginal birth or 10 weeks post-C-section (with your healthcare professional’s approval to exercise).Caring for babies up to around 18 months—or even older! As long as you’re comfortable wearing your child in a carrier, you’re welcome to join. (One mum, pictured below, even brought her nearly 3-year-old!)This Is for You if You Want To... Jump on a trampoline with your kids without worrying about leaks.Carry your baby as long as they need without back pain.Build a strong body and core to support your motherhood adventures.Enjoy some “me time” without having to leave your baby.Move your body in a convenient, unique, and fun way.Feel amazing in your postnatal body.Understand your body better so you feel confident returning to exercise.Heal and prevent Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation during pregnancy).Connect with uplifting, like-minded mums who just get it.Why Join? This class is led by me, an ex-midwife with over 12 years of experience helping mums recover after birth. I’ve supported countless women in rebuilding their pelvic floor, healing abdominal separation, and safely returning to exercise. You’ll not only get a fantastic workout but also expert guidance tailored to the unique needs of your postnatal body. In this session, I’ll touch on all of the topics above and provide time afterward for you to ask me any questions. However, fully recovering your body after birth takes more than a single class. For a step-by-step approach to rebuilding strength and confidence, you might consider joining The Postnatal Recovery Membership: https://www.karenpostrehab.co.uk/full-online-membership. This is also a one-off Baby-Wearing Exercise Class—and it’s FREE! Don’t miss this chance to try something fun, unique, and designed just for you and your baby. Book your spot now! Who Is the Instructor? I’m Karen, a midwife-turned-postnatal recovery specialist, and I’m exactly where I’m meant to be—helping new mums build a post-baby body they feel strong and confident in. I’m here to help you stay dry in your knickers and build a core of steel so you can be the active mum you’ve always wanted to be. I don’t believe in quick fixes when it comes to postnatal fitness. Your body is precious and deserves to be nurtured back to fitness in its own time. For some, that might take 21 days; for others, 21 months—and that’s perfectly okay. There’s no rush. When done right, your recovery will serve you for the rest of your life. I’m a mum to a 10-year-old and an 18-year-old, living in beautiful Brotton, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, on the North East Coast. This is where I became a midwife. After several years of feeling disheartened by a system that didn’t allow me to give women the care they truly deserved, I trained in postnatal and antenatal fitness and baby-wearing. Now, I’m able to support new mums in my own way. This isn’t just a typical exercise class—it’s designed specifically for mums like you. Every move in this class is tailored to the unique needs of the postnatal body, taking special care of your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and overall recovery. Whether you’re rebuilding strength, addressing Diastasis Recti, or just looking for a fun way to bond with your baby, this class has been created with you in mind. Who is Alice Hall From Bristol Girls Can? I’m Alice, I have two young daughters who keep me very busy but entertained. I used to be a primary school teacher and Special Needs Coordinator in South Bristol. I really enjoy being active and finding new ways to play and learn with the girls. My new role is working with mums in Filwood to understand what activities are taking place and what could be done to help people be more active in the area by trying to remove any barriers. I find physical activity really helps reduce a sense of being overwhelmed at everything there is to do, every day. My head feels much clearer on the days I walk or cycle compared to days when I drive. Above all, I want to be strong to be able to be active with my kids. I realised after my 2nd maternity leave that staying active was much harder with two children than with just one and I really noticed my energy levels dropping. I did a programme to kick start some healthy eating habits and started getting up early to fit in short strength training sessions before everyone else gets up. Quite quickly I saw huge improvements in my confidence, fitness and wellbeing. I would like to help others start this journey, with whatever small steps they can make. What Are You Waiting For? Don’t wait—secure your spot today for this one-of-a-kind Baby-Wearing Exercise Class! It’s FREE, fun, and designed to leave you feeling empowered, uplifted, and strong. Can’t make it to the live session? No problem! You can still join in by signing up to receive a playback of a recorded online class, delivered straight to your inbox. Move your body and start your recovery journey at a time that works for you: https://www.karenpostrehab.co.uk/free-postnatal-exercise-class-trial-playback Information Source: Karen Ellis - Postnatal Recovery Expert | eventbrite
