Cambridge
Find out more about the work of Rasheed Araeen, and his place in British visual culture, with Cambridge PhD student Alina Khakoo. Alina will talk visitors through the significance of the works on display, drawing on her own research into South Asian diasporic art in British culture. About the exhibition:
Rasheed Araeen: A British Story condenses Araeen’s artistic career into a representative selection of work across painting, collage, sculpture, and participatory installations. Works include Zero to Infinity, and his ‘Reading Room’ installation, which will offer visitors the opportunity to engage with the artist’s own writings, many of which were first published in the journal Third Text, which he founded in 1987. The show emphasizes the indivisibility of Araeen’s formal artistic language from his post-colonial political awareness and highlights his imaginative artistic responses to British political and cultural life over the last fifty years.

Streets around the College are paved. Car Parking and Arrival Upon arrival at the College, please come to the main entrance, the Porters’ Lodge, which has vehicle access and a generous dropping-off space, located on Buckingham Road which is off Huntingdon Road. Wheelchair access is available from the dropping-off point to the Porters’ Lodge. If you are coming by car, parking for up to 70 guests is available in our car park located on Storey’s Way. The route from the car park to the Porters’ Lodge is paved in generally smooth stone, concrete or tiling. At one point there is a slight incline to the main College building. Alternatively, it is possible to be dropped off in front of the Porters’ Lodge, as described above. Pathways: Artist Practice Sharing, with Jane Perryman and Linda Theophilus | Cambridge Artworks & Artspace
Jan 25, 2025 (UTC+0)
Cambridge
The Pathways series has developed as a place to consider artists' approaches in depth, and discuss their thinking and their choices in a facilitated group. Seeing the display of their work, and joining the discussions can refresh your own ideas and understanding, whether you are also an artist, or simply interested in the communicative power of creativity. Working as an artist and writer for many years, Jane Perryman came to a point in her career where she needed to explore new territory. Her ceramic practice became incorporated with text, poetry, frottage and sound in collaboration with composer Kevin Flanagan. The resulting multi media installation explore durational, environmental and location based themes and have been exhibited in the UK and internationally. Linda Theophilusworks with used domestic objects and materials found on location, to make ephemeral installations and temporary sculptures. Her current work often explores balance, weight and counterweight to explore states of uncertainty and change.
