The History of Parish Church. | St Helens Parish Church
Jun 12, 2025 (UTC+1)
St Helens
From its humble beginnings in the 16th Century, through time to today.
We will be looking into the history of St Helens Parish Church, how it started, who funded it, what happened when the Puritans took over? How the arguments between the Middle-Classes split the church into two fractions due to in house arguments and built the Non-Conformist Church up the road.
When the two congregations put aside their differences and came back together during Queen Victoria's reign to bring the poor working class, workers’ rights, children’s rights, womens rights and the workers unions. How they built soup kitchens, schools and much much more. How one son of a vicar changed the way we viewed reforming prisoners to escape the poverty loop of the penal system. And how it helped to sober up a town.
The church was once the centre of social events for everyone, no matter your denomination, a place to introduce your baby to the community, to marry, and to say goodbye to loved ones who had passed over. A place to meet friends and family, socialise and where you would raise your family. It was the epicentre of the town.
This is a fundraising event to help the food bank based at the church.
There will be a mix of pre booked tickets, paper tickets that can be bought from the church and pay on the door so everyone has an opportunity to come.

I'd like to emphasize that the 2025 Dutchmen Owners Rally is a collective effort. It's an 'Owners Rally', which means that we, including you, play a pivotal role in making this event everything we hope for it to be. While we've received tremendous support from Dutchmen RV, our sponsors, and our vendors, it's important to note that we are still responsible for the outcome of our rally. I personally volunteered to lead this endeavor because I believe in its significance. However, as a typical family-man balancing the demands of a full-time career, I'll rely on the support of each and every one of you to ensure of our rally's success.
If you're willing to lend a hand, please don't hesitate to let me know. Volunteer tasks may include assisting participants upon their arrival, helping with parking logistics, hosting engaging group events, and even potentially offering skill-building classes. Again, this rally is what WE make it. If you have something to share such as tips, tricks, advice, please share them with others to help our community grow and thrive!
With this being just our second year, it's important to acknowledge that every great endeavor encounters a few hiccups along the way and we ask for your patience. Nonetheless, we have a remarkable opportunity to create something extraordinary that will only improve with each event.

Vera Stanhope returns in the eleventh formidable novel in Ann Cleeves’ acclaimed series A man’s body is found in the early morning light by a local dog walker on the common outside Rosebank, a care home for troubled teens. The victim is Josh, a staff member, who was due to work the previous night but never showed up.

Vera, Joe and new team member Rosie Bell are soon embroiled in the case, and when a second connected body is found near the Three Dark Wives standing stones in the wilds of the Northumbrian countryside, superstition and folklore begin to collide with fact.

The first session will focus on planning, looking at funding jargon such as outcomes and outputs, finishing off with looking at various sources of funding and the pros and cons of each. The second session 25 November will take the learning from the first session for you to be able to apply this to your own funding needs and then look at compelling ways you can demonstrate your need for funding through an application. Each session will be about two hours long and the numbers are capped at 16. It helps if participants have an idea of what they're looking for in terms of funding, so they can relate the learning to a real life example.

Collaborate: Creating work with glass | World of Glass
Jan 17, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
St Helens
Artists, have you ever wondered how to create a piece of work using glass? Ever had an idea that works with the history of glass making in St Helens? Come to this event that aims to give a bit of a behind the scenes look at the equipment and resources that are available in one of St Helens' creative organisations. We will be guided around the Hot Glass Studio by resident glass blowers Marcin Czepiga and Cate Glasson. They will show us how the equipment and kilns are used to create work from glass. They will also take us into their workshop where they engrave into glass and recycle broken glass into new creations. Staff from the museum team at the World of Glass will take us around the museum collection where we will be able to explore potential ways of creating work that engages with the history of glass making or the local history of St Helens. Examples of how artists have worked in this way with other organisations will be shared and there will be the opportunity to ask questions about how all of this can develop your own creative work. See the agenda below for full details What is Collaborate? Collaborate is an event that is held twice a year as part of Artists Together - the artist development programme from St Helens Arts in Libraries. It is a practical opportunity to meet and work alongside other artists for a number of days. National Day of Prayer Breakfast at Maple City Chapel
| Come join us for a morning filled with prayer and reflection at Maple City Chapel! Our guest speaker, Chaplain Matthew Barnes is blessed to have an incredible Christian heritage. Growing up in a pastor’s family, he was taught the importance of ministering to others. Matthew’s father is the pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Sunman, Indiana, and Matthew is a missionary sent out of HBC.
Matthew was called to preach at the age of 19, and after seven years of biblical study and on-the-job-training, he was ordained January 11, 2003.
He has had the opportunity to minister in many different venues over the years: from missions conferences to prayer breakfasts, weddings to funerals, and from rescue missions to the Indiana Statehouse. Matthew worked for several years bi-vocationally with a desire to go into full-time ministry. In the fall of 2004, after listening to a sermon on praying for political leaders, God placed a burden on Matthew's heart to begin a ministry in the Indiana Statehouse. A short time later, he founded Public Servants' Prayer.
Since 2004, ministry in the Statehouse has expanded in more ways than could have been imagined. God has provided Matthew with incredible opportunities to lead Bible Studies, Chapel Services, Annual Statehouse Prayer Services, Prayer Breakfasts, and Pastors’ Statehouse Days. These events, combined with faithful interaction within the capitol community, have opened many doors for sharing the Good News and testimonies of God’s faithfulness.
In addition, Matthew travels to many churches throughout the United States with an extended vision. He desires to see them gain a passion for ministry to their individual elected leaders through prayer, encouragement, and the Word of God. twitter @mattrbarnes
