Meeting in the 9th House OR Emily Christina Sagittarius BY GENTLEFREAK | Arraymusic

Dec 15, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Walnut
Concerts
Classical
GENTLEFREAK invites you to an intimate concert honouring the fiery spirit of Sagittarius season. Join Toronto-based artists Reilly Nelson, David Eliakis, and Danika Lorèn for this unique art song program featuring poetry exclusively by notable Sagittarius poets Emily Dickinson and Christina Rossetti, with special astrological narration by Hype Witch. Improvisatory music making combines with exquisite melodies by Aaron Copland, Jake Heggie, Lee Hoiby, Lori Laitman, Libby Larsen, Danika Lorèn and André Previn to create a soundscape both classic and cosmic. A NOTE FROM CONCERT CREATOR DANIKA LORÈN: OKAY SO, Emily Dickinson and Christina Rossetti never met, BUT they were born five days apart (December 5th and 10th, I830) and a comparison of their birth charts shows shared Sagittarius placements for their Sun, Mercury and Venus. Though the circumstances of their lives varied in many ways, their poetry shows how similar their internal lives were. Very mutable fire sign, if you know what I mean... They were living in a time when astrology was gaining popularity in England and America, and I imagine them both staring up at the night sky, an ocean apart from each other, wondering what they might read about themselves in the stars, and pouring out verses in conversation with the stars and planets above. Basically, this concert manifests as a non-linear, non-narrative portrait of fiery Sagittarius through an intimate conversation between the innerworlds of these two Sagittarius genius babes and the voice of the wise/ancient cosmos. It will be lush, and mysterious, and luminous, and celestial! Hope to see you there :) Information Source: eventbrite
