We are delighted to launch our new Photo Book created as a result of our series of Photo Walks which took place throughout 2024. Inspired by V&A Dundee’s exhibition ‘Photo City: How Images Shape the Urban World’ this project is a creative photographic record of Dundee in the year of 2024; the 10th anniversity of the city's UNESCO City of Design status, captured through the lens of the camera by people visiting Dundee and those who call it home. This book brings together a selection of the hundreds of photos which were taken on these walks to tell the stories of people and places that make the story of our city special. Join us at The McManus to celebrate the book's launch where you will be able to meet some of the featured photographers and purchase your own copy ahead of the Photo Book's general sale from 11 December. A Resourcing Class: Erotics of the Earthworm A movement-based session exploring how we nourish our creativity with texts and stories, inspired by the digesting and aerating moves of the earthworm, led by artist and dancer Rabindranath X Bhose.
This workshop forms part of the free curriculum of events for The Ignorant Art School Sit-in #4 Outside the Circle. Biography Rabindranath X Bhose is an artist and dancer based in Glasgow and hailing from London, Scotland, France, India and Brussels. His research circles around the figure of the ‘gender fugitive’ and the queer potentials of the bog. Recent commissions include Corpores Infames: Disreputable Bodies at Glasgow International in collaboration with Oren Shoesmith and Belladonna Paloma and DANCE IN THE SACRED DOMAIN: Body of the Bog at Collective, Edinburgh. He is a graduate of School of the Damned DIY Art School and is currently studying for an MFA in Creative Practice at Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Siobhan Davies Studios. He is also a Trustee of artist run space Market Gallery and a Research Lead for British Art Network 2023-2024 group Artist-Run Initiatives in Britain. About the exhibition Outside the Circle, is an exhibition and event programme inspired by and generated from feminist and queer movements since the beginning of the 20th century that foregrounds intersectional feminist and queer strategies of radical emancipation, resistance, survival, and collective action as critical and pedagogical ‘ruptures’ in our lived experience. It is the fourth iteration of ongoing programme, The Ignorant Art School: Five Sit-ins Towards Creative Emancipation.

Join us for the 2024 Kanzen Winter Seminar to be held on Saturday 7th December. Led by Sensei Roy O'Kane, Sensei Dan Woods, Sensei Oliver Bruce and Sensei Rhys Gilchrist - it is open to all Karateka. The Winter Seminar will be held at Dundee International Sports Complex (DISC) and all participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. The event is FREE and open to all ages and grades. Doors Open: 09:30 Session 1: 10:00 to 10:50 Session 2: 11:00 to 11:50 Session 3: 12:00 to 12:50 Event Finish: 13:00 Venue:Dundee International Sports Complex, Mains Loan, Dundee, DD4 7AA Sensei Roy O’Kane FRSA is the Chief Officer Kanzen and has been training and teaching in Shotokan Karate for over 30 years. Over a 16-year competition career, he competed domestically, nationally, and internationally, consistently winning medals in both Kata and Kumite. He has travelled, sought out and trained under some of the best instructors in the world. In addition to his work with Kanzen, he is the Chief Operating Officer of the WUKF World Karate and member of the ruling Executive Committee. Sensei Dan Woods is a professional Karate Instructor with Kanzen and has been training and teaching for over 17 years. He is the Squad Coach of Kanzen Karate and has coached at the highest levels of Sport Karate competition. He is also a member of the WUKF World Karate Athletes & Coaches Commission and Chair of the Kanzen Techncial Committee. Sensei Rhys Gilchristhas been with Kanzen for over 12 years and competed nationally and internationally for most of that time. He became WUKF World Karate Champion in 2023 and is now focussing on inspiring those he teaches. He leads our school Karate taster programme, bringing Karate to over hundreds of primary school children across Dundee & Angus. Sensei Oliver Bruce started with Kanzen Karate in 2013, aged 9 years of age. In that time, he went on to become a 3x WUKF European champion and a 2x WUKF world champion. Outside of Karate he has completed both an HNC and HND in Sports Coaching. He is now a full-time member of the Kanzen team and a Level 3 Personal Trainer.
