Horror is a genre used throughout film and media to assert allegory about elements of society, whether through visual or circumstantial metaphor. The goal of this exhibition is to bring that underlying ideology to the forefront. Tales of a Modern Horror is an anthology-style display of local sculpture and mixed media artists, styled after collections of short stories and horror stories. It is divided into sections themed around different horror stories to document particular social issues that artists feel inspired by. Tales of a Modern Horror is an individual-run project made in association with the Evil Corp Horror Maze and Bar team. It is primarily organized by Kassius Owcarek. Unfortunately, this venue is not wheelchair accessible due to the large staircase leading into the venue. In this workshop voice is considered as a musical instrument, closest to the human body, accessible to everyone regardless of the level of technical skills of the performer. Surrounded noise here is contemplated as a source for inspirations, experimentation and discoveries. The practice will touch such topics as active listening, presence and concentration in a sonic material, sonic memory, vocal interpretation and imitation, ways of working with a sonic idea development, as well as some basic principles of singing techniques. Performers will work in groups and solo, researching these topics through the specific exercises and would be proposed to show up their work for the public, at the end of the 2-days workshop. Katya Shirshkova (b. 1994) is a vocalist, performance artist, composer and lecturer, working in the field of experimental music, on the border between academic avant-garde and performance art mainly with voice and choirs, applying interdisciplinary methods in her work. Katya is a lecturer at Ecole de Beaux Art Bourges, a laureate of PAUSE programme. Currently based in France. The Out House gallery is locatied inside the Bruswick Park. 'Polyphonic belly' is the name of the series of voice and improvisation workshops I will lead at the Out House (SE5 7RH) every other Monday eve. The first workshop will be focusing on humming and tuning to each other without using words! We will start with 20-30 minutes vocal and body warmup, before several longer exercices and then finishing with a more free expression.
