Amy went on to lead for her party as their front bench spokesperson for health, campaigning for fairer more equitable access to healthcare and standing firm against the causes of health inequality. Amy survived melanoma as a teenager and a brain haemorrhage soon after being elected during the first covid lockdown, following this she successfully campaigned to make the House of Commons more accessible for MPs with disabilities and long term health conditions by introducing proxy voting. Amy returned to work with no support from medical professionals involved in her care and credits Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland tech-enriched rehab at the University of Strathclyde for getting her back to the House of Commons. Interested in Attending? Whether you’re looking to learn something new, meet others, or simply feel part of a wider community — we hope you’ll leave feeling heard, uplifted, and supported. Carers tickets are availible free of charge when signing up to attend with a stroke survivor. The Left And Elections: Learning From The Past, Fighting For The Future Join us for a day of discussion on rebuilding socialist ideas and organisation. With perspectives on Your Party, the movement and the working class toda y. In the first quarter of this century the patterns of political expression and organisation on the radical left have varied. Largley, they have been dominated by mass movements. Here, we can reference the anti-war movement of 2003, and the Palestine solidarity movement today. We have also seen other movements emerge around austerity, Scottish independence and climate change. Within these developments, socialists have played a central role. Alongside these extra-parliamentary campaigns, there have been attempts at utilising political parties as instruments of opposition and resistance. And, to provide an alternative to a failed establishment. These have taken various forms. In Greece, Syriza came to power. In Spain, Podemos became the country's third lasrgest force. And in the UK, the mass movements made a turn towards the Labour Party in the form of Corbynism. Each of these, and other such examples, met structrual challenges which eventuated in their demise. And, within these projects, there are very different conceptions of what is possible, what is desirable, and how best to navigate a volatile era. Today, the process of political fragmentation is intensifying. Reform far outstrip the Tory party in the polls on the radical right. At the same time, the launch of the "Your Party" process by Zara Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn has attracted 900,000 sign-ups, showing an incredible appetite for radical change. This represents a new dynamic in politics, in which the once invincible two party system, is falling apart. In Scotland there are specific dimensions to examine around the national question, and a different set of challenges in relation to the SNP. Moreover, electoral politics opens up a range of questions for socialists, about the relationship between the state, the movement, political parties and the working class today. It is in this context that Counterfire Scotland has arranged this day of discussion. We will assess the problems and challenges bound up with previous electoral initiatives, and look at the some of big questions facing the left today: - From Syriza to Corbynism: What are the key lessons for a new left party? - The state and the system: How can we confront British capitalism? - The working class and the movement today: Strategies for the left - Socialism in Scotland: What kind of organisation do we need? - Theory and practice: Ideological preparation for an era of uncertainty The aftrenoon will be structured around a series of panels and talks, to be released soon. Check back here for updates - or better still - sign up to our substack to be kept up-to-date with all of our meetings and activities. Note: This event is free, with options to pay £5 or a solidarity price of £10 to help us cover costs. Information Source: Counterfire Scotland | eventbrite

As AI agents become more and more prevalent in everyday technology, more and more individuals -- from every walk of life, at every level of education, across the entire socioeconomic spectrum, of every gender, race, ethnicity and age -- will need to make decisions about which agent(s) to use, when and how, and to what extent using them is the best path forward. The "mission" this talk explores is how we can enable such diverse individuals to make such decisions in ways that make their lives better instead of worse. For example, should I use an agent to enable me to be a remote caregiver for my grandmother, or should I move in with her? Should I buy semi-self-driving car X, or semi-self-driving car Y, or stay entirely manual? Will using one of these systems cost someone's life? Will it so destroy someone's privacy that their lives become filled with fear and harassment? Will my child become less intelligent over time if I give her access to LLM-powered "homework helpers"? In this talk, I don't show how to answer any of these questions. But I show a few paths forward that may point to way(s) toward answering them, and at least one path on how not to answer them. Welcome to The Alan Fletcher "Back to School" Album tour ! Don't miss this opportunity to see, hear and meet Neighbours legend Alan Fletcher as he brings his latest album to life on stage. Join us at The CCA on Wednesday September 24 , 2025 at 7 :00 PM for a night of unforgettable music and memories. N.B. FULL REFUND AVAILABLE FOR ANY CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES What to expect: An Alan Fletcher concert is a complete night’s entertainment. Alan, or Fletch as everyone knows him, will regale you with songs and stories that will, in turn, bring a tear to your eye and a smile to your dial. And Fletch doesn’t shy away from his Neighbours connection with some fun chat and music speaking to his other life as a soap Doctor. The support artist on the tour is brilliant Aussie singer/songwriter Riley Catherall. Riley supported Fletch on his sellout 2024 tour and was so admired by audiences he was the obvious choice to invite for an encore performance. A night with Fletch and his band is a guaranteed fun night out! IS ALAN FLETCHER A BETTER MUSICIAN THAN DR KARL! Here's what they say. Overall Alan Fletcher delivered a show that surprised in the best possible way. He had a fantastic vocal quality throughout as well as some solid guitar playing, but what elevated the evening for me was the balance he struck between thoughtfulness and fun and the strength of his connection with the crowd. It’s safe to say he’s going to appeal to music fans way beyond just those who know him from ‘Neighbours’ Entertainment-focus.com – Laura Cooney Had the pleasure of meeting Fletch in Worthing this week. A joyful evening of songs old and new. Highly recommended - Andy Dobson What a great night at The Steam and Whistle!! Thank you so much! You were all amazing and so lovely to see you again!! - Emiliana, Hannah and Jason Saw you in Southampton last night and you definitely have a better voice and more talent than Dr Karl !! Fabulous evening! - Kim Roberts LISTEN TO ALAN : https://open.spotify.com/artist/7cFm5js7bzn23T8tKkJG5G?si=iY9d3NT4SkO19EYVj5NJBA BE QUICK AND DON’T MISS THIS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR AND MEET A TV ICON!
