SmART: Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner | The Westport Library
Mar 14, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Westport
Join Stacy Bass and Bobbi Coller for a captivating conversation delving into the intriguing relationship between renowned artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Through vivid illustrations and stimulating dialogue, they will explore the vibrant works of these pioneering figures and trace the trajectory of their careers. This enlightening discussion is the first in a series of in-depth conversations about art and artists, hosted by Westport's own Stacy Bass.
Before the term "power couple" was coined, Pollock and Krasner were already making waves as groundbreaking artists within the Abstract Expressionist Movement. While Pollock's revolutionary technique of pouring paint directly onto the canvas initially sparked controversy, he went on to achieve legendary status during his tragically short life, becoming an iconic figure of the 20th century. Krasner's artistic contributions, on the other hand, took longer to be recognized and valued. However, the recent cultural shift of acknowledging the accomplishments of women artists has shed light on the strength of Krasner's work and her pivotal role in shaping mid-20th century abstraction. Today, her paintings and collages are showcased worldwide, fetching record-breaking prices at auctions and adorning the collections of esteemed museums.
Bobbi Coller, an esteemed art historian, independent curator, and art educator, will lend her expertise to this conversation. With a deep admiration for both Pollock and Krasner, Coller has dedicated her career to preserving their legacies. As Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, she has curated notable exhibitions and played a vital role in honoring these two influential artists.
Stacy Bass, a talented photographer and graduate of NYU School of Law, will moderate the conversation. Known for her evocative images of architecture, interiors, and gardens, Bass has a keen eye for capturing the essence of a place through light, color, and composition. Her work has been featured in prestigious publications and can be found in various private and corporate collections.
Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to delve into the world of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Join us at The Westport Library for an enriching discussion that will deepen your appreciation for these artistic luminaries. Admission is free.
